Back in 2019 the leader of the University of Washington college republicans got in hot water for tweeting out the term “GloboHomo,” a slur known almost solely to the sorts of folks who read Stormfront. So of course that person was soon hired by Chris Rufo and is now Russ Vought’s press secretary.

This is why it's also important for domestic elected officials to condemn it as "illegal" and not just gripe about consultation. This is the stuff upon which international law is built. The prohibition against piracy wasn't some entity declaring it illegal worldwide, it was a custom built over time.
For nonlawyers, it’s worth noting that statements like this have—as a formal matter—important legal effects as a matter of international law. If such statements are *not* made, and in volume, future arguments that Trump’s invasion sets a legal precedent will stand on much firmer legal ground.
Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide: "International law is universal and binding for all states. The American intervention in Venezuela is not in accordance with international law."

Will the president’s illegal military actions end with Venezuela or will our military be used to also go after legitimate, democratically elected leaders in Latin America, as he has threatened with Mexico’s President Sheinbaum?

I'm boosting myself to say this:

You're going to see people On Here tell you calling electeds doesn't matter. That's not true.

Some are bots. Some are people who like being contrary to be edgy.

But calling moves the needle, especially against a blatantly illegal act by Trump and Co. ACT.
Candid answer - as someone who handled constituent affairs calls for years - while they’re not checking the phone right now, the urgency of the moment is important.

Show them you care enough to make the weekend call, and be counted that way. Staffers will clock and report this upstream.
Is there actually a benefit to leaving a VM now vs getting a staffer on Monday? Can do both but just curious

Talmbout “avoid justice for drug trafficking” when Trump just pardoned a man found guilty and imprisoned for smuggling probably a container ship’s worth of drugs into this country to prop up his patron’s failing libertarian colony. Disgusting.
Vice President JD Vance defended the legality of the U.S. military operation in Venezuela. “You don’t get to avoid justice for drug trafficking in the United States because you live in a palace in Caracas,” Vance wrote on X.
Live updates: Trump says Maduro captured in ‘large scale strike’ against Venezuela
The United States launched a large-scale strike on Venezuela, captured its president, Nicolás Maduro and flew him out of the country, President Trump said.

What Weiss and Adam O'Neal at the Post are really signaling is that nothing like the 1619 Project will be produced under their leadership. 1619 was not unpatriotic, but called for America to live up to its ideals, not its history and practices.
I also love America and believe in its stated values.

And I understand that this pronouncement lands very differently when it comes from an organization that has intentionally been overhauled in order to curry favor with a jingoistic proto-fascist who says his opponents hate the country.
Incredible. CBS Evening News announces five new “simple values” — instead of their “38-page handbook” — as they roll out Tony Dokoupil is lead anchor.

One of those values is simply: “We love America and make no apologies for saying so.”

I meant to say this last night but in 2025, I was actually really grateful for the community here. Y’all shared my work and made my writing possible. You made me laugh in the bleakest times. And you threw me a follow when I assumed I’d post to no one forever after quitting twitter in 2023.

This should not be shrugged aside. They have stopped with the fake 22 million illegal immigrants things and are flat out saying we want to deport 10's of millions of citizens and legal residents from "third world countries" Basically they are advocating removing 1/3 of the population on a gov site.

We don't have due process. We have entire groups being punished for the alleged actions of a few.

The Trump administration says it has frozen all childcare payments to Minnesota in the aftermath of allegations of fraud by some in the Somali community.

Important: allegations along these lines have existed for years, which has resulted in prosecutions starting with the Biden DOJ.
