That man doesn't pay his own bills, he's not sending us jack shit. He didn't even before, he slapped his name on checks he didn't even issue.
Trump: "We want a healthcare system where we pay the money to the people instead of the insurance companies. We're gonna be working on that very hard over the next short period of time. Where the people get the money. We're talking about trillions and trillions of dollars."

I don't know what's going to happen, so I'm not getting worked up or angry for the sake of it. I'll pace myself. We'll never make it to 2027 if our blood pressure is constantly spiked.

The ACA cuts happened in the reconciliation bill in July, every single Democrat voted against it and they got 3 detectors so Vance had to break the tie, and the Dems just shut down the government for 40 days to try and get them to undo it, it is absolutely deranged to blame this on “Democrats”
Yes - this is a loss because Democrats have now signed on to ACA cuts as a complicit party and once again made it a less effective issue for the mid terms
From that perspective, this would be a failure, right? Because the Dems lose the narrative that they did everything to stand in the way of ACA cuts.

Like, some of y’all are being straight evil. My uncle’s church is literally doing collections right now to get people food and diapers through the shutdown.
There is a human cost to indifference.
If you *actually* want to fight and win, then give Dems BOTH houses come midterms.

You don't have to be thrilled with Schumer's inability to keep his caucus on side, but your ultimate ire should be for the people holding the ACA, SNAP, and govt funds hostage. Blaming Dems for the actions of Republicans is literally Republican propoganda, so wtf are you all doing?

This is a more nuanced take.
The best take on all of this shutdown came from @shannonrwatts.bsky.social who told me this would only end by Republicans killing the filibuster or Democrats caving. That’s it. But Schumer somehow broadcast that Republicans would cave when they never gave any indication they would.

It hasn't even been a week since a blue wave and people who probably didn't even donate a cent or send a postcard are losing their minds pretending like they're going to primary anyone. Get used to shitty outcomes people, while the assholes are in charge of govt.
I know it’s not going to be easy but I’m begging yall to find a way to maintain your sanity. It is going to be a long and sustained effort to keep and recover our rights!!!! Did yall even READ PROJECT 2025?!?

I didn't vote for republicans. I voted for dems who made promises and declared values I expect them to live up to. Why tf would I "storm" republicans???
LOL if you're more ready to storm Democratic Senators than the Republican Senators, well this is why we are resting.

Watching people push responsibility for organizing protests, running food banks, directing the media landscape, etc all to Dem legislators, just proves to me that those people are not ready to live through, let alone fight, the revolution they demanded to happen.

I just called Durbin to tell him not to cave but that was real easy for me to do with a full fridge
there is some tension between the (correct) level of apocalypticism on this site about food aid running out and the unwillingness to make any compromises in service of making it not run out

He's one of the more conservative of the Dem senators. More so than Schumer, so I'm skeptical of Axios' take. Are we sure it's not a move by the GOP to put pressure on Dems and put the heat back on them? These "anonymous" sources do this a lot.

Ah Dave Weigel, the living embodiment of mediocre white men failing upward.

You know, the people least likely to be affected either way.

I don't want them to cave either, but there aren't any good options really. We're depending on Republicans gaining a conscious after seeing people starve. That's a long shot. The only way to avoid this hostage situation was to elect Dems in 2024.
I absolutely don't want Senate Dems to cave, but some key things:
1. If they do, this gets kicked back over to the House, which has to vote on it again since it would differ from their own version...which I think only runs thru 11/21?
2. That presumably means having to swear in Grjalva.
