If it came out that a political candidate I had supported was very obviously and credibly a pedophile, I would simply stop supporting them

What's from Chicago, hates Illinois Nazis, and is holy as fuck?

It's the Pope in 1982.

The belief that one gets some kind of gold star for being correct first is one of the worst parts of terminally online political discourse. We were all mad when Dems surrendered the shutdown, so why are we waving the white flag?
I'm not really into the skeets saying "there will be no consequences just like there haven't been consequences" because firstly, that's defeatist. secondly, I don't see the use in predicting the future consequences or lack thereof. I do see the use in loudly telling the truth at all times

Read your contracts, friends.
On August 12, 1971, 16-year-old me mailed the first story I ever wrote off on its first submission to my dream market, F&SF. My tale was quickly rejected. On July 17th, 2025, I finally sold a story to that magazine. Here's why I felt I had to withdraw that story. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

The Joyce Carol Oates and “books written between 1890-1930 are so ALPHA” thing struck home because it showed how many elites nowadays lack the ability to be moved or find meaning in art beyond what we did watching John Wick and going fuck yea this rules and that explains why they believe in AI art

Yay yes 100% this
Sometimes I wonder if our many years of jokes about writers hating writing and doing anything but writing, etc, have convinced people that the writing part is the hurdle and the goal is just to have a thing in hand. But I am here to tell you: the writing is the best part. The act is the thing.

FRANKENSTEIN, Guillermo del Toro (2025)
November 9, 2025 at 4:42 PM
I think the best part of the del Toro FRANKENSTEIN is when William looks right at Victor and says, “Victor, YOU are the monster!!!!” Boy, if only Mary Shelley had thought to put that line in her book she would have saved us all a lot of head-scratching!

And he ended it with a quote from Byron. Give me a fucking break. I quit
Mary Shelley: I am going to write a novel about how men, to the misery and folly of the world, think they understand everything better than women, including making new life!

Male filmmakers: I understand the story of Frankenstein much better than its author

If all you think about Black Southern History and all you bring up is slavery? Then you are missing out. Black southern history and culture is not about suffering. It's about art, history, language, music, food, and our accomplishments.
"Black people just move to a Blue State" is such out of touch bullshit. And what about the Indigieous folks or the Chicanx folks? We just leave them behind to suffer while we have to deal with the passive aggressive anti-Blackness that Blue states are known for?

I had never heard of this show before and now I will 100% be watching it
I saw someone angry that a scene where the villain forces his rival to watch him fuck somebody else while he's tied to a chair "wasn't romantic at ALL!!"
and I'm like, how do you engage with that? of course it wasn't, why did you think it was! the gap is too huge. you shouldn't be watching this

I'm doing my "first pass" proofread on my forthcoming Tordotcom novella, about an interstellar art heist, and was delighted to remember I'd included the "art banana" (aka Comedian, by Maurizio Cattelan) among the various works mentioned.
