Oh wait what’s this!
What didn't make it into my blurb was how this bonkers (complimentary) book goes from being a horny rewrite of A Princess of Mars to being a horny rewrite of The Wizard of Oz, where the Wizard is super hot but sexually frustrated and tries to kiss the main girl a lot as she pleads and struggles.
Dorothy Quick's Strange Awakening comes out in two weeks! Molly Tanzer says "Weird Tales fans and Romantasy enthusiasts alike will find something in this novel by one of our forgotten matriarchs of science fiction.”

Porn and erotica are important and societally valuable forms of speech, and the defense of them, in the face of state and church attempts at repression, is a necessary political act.

The reason people react aggressively to AI use isn’t bcuz we aren’t capable of having nuanced convos. It’s because you using AI is an act of aggression. There is no both sides here. You are stealing, funding billionaires who lobby against the greater good, and enable labor theft. Hope this helps.

I’m doing the same thing this year after many heavily planned years with themes and words. I’m planning to use that space in my journal to celebrate what I do get done, rather than creating a list that might make me feel I haven’t done enough. I’m excited to see how it goes!
Confession:

I don't have a word for 2026.
I don't a resolution for 2026.
I don't have a life plan for 2026.
I don't have an exercise plan for 2026.
I don't have a writing plan for 2026.

Dear lord the sloppers are getting even more slop-brained. This is beyond embarrassing.

Thanks so much, SFWA. This whole discourse really is the gift that keeps on giving!
Not only does this have the sing-songy rhetorical stylings of an LLM text itself, nothing about it appears to be true. Contracts are a 4000-year-old social practice; how did they become incomprehensible to the unaided human mind last year?
Erin Underwood: Open Letter to the Science Fiction Writers Association and Community
Hi Friends, Erin Underwood After writing the letter below, I thought rather than sending it to SFWA only, I’d share it with Mike at File 770 along with a note that read: “Am I crazy? Will this blow…

I just bought a DVD.
Buttons are back. Knobs are back. Dumb devices are back. Own-it-forever software is back. Print is back. Personal websites and chronological feeds are back. Touching grass is back. People keep saying 2015, but it’s not far enough. The entire 2010s were a mistake. We must retvrn to… 2009.
Amazingly, reaction times using screens while driving are worse than being drunk or high—no wonder 90 percent of drivers hate using touchscreens in cars. Finally the auto industry is coming to its senses.

And Tiny Tim, who did NOT die, shall swim out to that brooding reef in the sea and dive down through black abysses to Cyclopean and many-columned Y’ha-nthlei, and in that lair of the Deep Ones we shall dwell amidst wonder and glory for ever.
And Tiny Tim, who did NOT die, beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
And Tiny Tim, who did NOT die, and next appears in the narrative as a Valkyrie, having joined the host of Odin’s chosen-daughters via some process obscured by a lacuna in the manuscript.

Maybe what’s really important right now is for all artists to come together to fight for one another against the sloppers, moguls, and technocrats, even if that means sometimes saying no to quick and convenient solutions.

Translators deserve respect. They deserve to be listed alongside authors when a work is published/acknowledged/nominated. They deserve not to be enslopified just like artists, musicians, and writers as they’re essentially all three in one.

Respecting the arts means respecting your fellow artists.
Deep breath
Ok I'm going to try and stay calm
But I'll point out that AI translation is literally causing translators to be fired (see the whole Harlequin line in France)

Hiya. If you know me at all it’s bc I make roughly 35 posts a day about how much I hate AI/LLMs.

This year I was a judge for the World Fantasy Award. FWIW, if any of us thought Robert Jackson Bennet used AI to write The Tainted Cup we would not have nominated it, much less awarded it best novel.

Yeah even if you “just” use it to write your back cover copy or whatever, you’re using a technology built by fascist thieves and are using it without/against the explicit wishes of the victims (and you should feel bad and be ashamed that you’d rather be lazy than ethical)
And please also, AGAIN, never forget that they are inherently unethical to use because no one gave permission for their research or writing to be used in it. It is all stolen, and if you're using the plagiarism machine, please keep that in mind.
My friends, I say this with all the love in my heart: Right now might not be the moment for “But we should be TOLERANT and NUANCED about the plagiarism machines!”

Your tolerance and “nuance” will be weaponised by the grifters and their apologists. Please respect yourselves more.

And this isn't just about one person. Next year some publisher who publishes Big Names may announce AI editing policy that excludes certain works, and those authors will be rightly upset.

It will be EVEN MORE important to hold the line in that circumstance.
