First good Jacobin take I've seen in... months?
I've been thinking about this in several respects as we do our theatrical TWIN PEAKS rewatch. Sherilyn Fenn is 25 and 26 when she plays Audrey Horne. Everything about her presence tells you her real age. If you think a teenager is behaving that way, that just means you're a creep. They aren't.
I know that sometimes the cultural perspective of teenagers can be distorted because it's normal for twentysomethings to play 15- and 16-year-olds on TV, but they are unmistakably children. They're not five, but they are very clearly not adults.

honestly my estimation of House Democrats has grown a little bit from the fact that they were clearly eager to leak this *entire* trove of emails even though they would damage or ruin the reputations of a bunch of Democratic Party luminaries who are in the emails

Not to post tediously or anything, but I think the folks who believe "Schumer and most senate Dems supported the 8 who caved, the whole thing was carefully managed kabuki" should consider the fact that Dem leadership capable of that coordination would also have known this Epstein stuff was looming.

Realized that I never posted about IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT. It's really good! Intense, beautifully paced, stressful, beautiful, immaculate from a technical perspective, and admirable in its restraint. It doesn't ultimately subject the viewer to more violence than it needs to.

One thing I truly can't bear to think about is the terror and suffering being inflicted on so many of the students that I worked with in my old job in the Division of DEI at UI. They and their families didn't deserve any of this, and it will continue happening to them for years.

I am sympathetic with people who shifted unconsciously from one side of this question to the other—my thinking certainly changed as the shutdown developed and conditions changed—but you owe it to yourself to recognize when your thinking is changing, which simply cannot prove you were always right.
Weird how at some point the ACA subsidies went from meaningless technocrat babble that it was obviously incredibly stupid for Democrats to try protecting to being incredibly important for helping people avoid suffering.

In my 42-person worldbuilding class—a general studies elective—we read five novels and write about 45 pages of fiction. Yesterday, as we discussed book 5, I told my class how the national media constantly says college students can't read whole novels. And then we scoffed and laughed and got to work.

Yesterday, when Bovino announced ICE would be returning to Little Village today, some of us donated and fundraised to buy out street vendors in the neighborhood. This morning, volunteers hit the streets at 6:30 am, looking for vendors to buy out. Tamales make an excellent breakfast.

instead of saying this was good strategy, maybe senate dems should say: "the republicans were going to kill people by starving them to death, and because we aren't monsters, we decided to let this fight go. We'll keep fighting. Stop electing monsters."

I believe in moderate strategic stove touching but one reason I can't really be too angry with the people that caved is this administration genuinely will starve millions if they can. Caving is not a guaranteed solution but if you can't see why a person would do it you're blinding yourself.
