Catholic sisters, clergy & lay leaders have been standing with immigrants in the US since the beginning. When I worked for a diocese in '13, a group of nuns led an immigration reform prayer vigil outside our local rep's office for 30 days in a row. Rising to the moment now because it's in the DNA.
(It’s also worth noting that the biggest organizing forces behind this stuff have been a) faith leaders and denominational networks and b) middle-aged and older women. IMHO two of the most pro-social forces in America today.)

Having seen several abductions up close, it is really hard to convey how much the thing they’re doing is roaming in military convoys until they see someone who is alone and isn’t white, and then jumping out in large numbers, pulling them into a van, and screeching off, all in 90 seconds or so.
"“They specifically asked me if I knew where the Hmong families lived on my street & in the neighborhood.” Lugert-Thom responded, “I don’t know anything about that” & she said they then asked, “Well, what about the Asian families?”"

"“I was a bit shaken & a bit shocked of what I was asked to do.”"
A St. Paul resident says federal officers knocked on her door and asked her to identify Hmong and Asian households in her North End neighborhood last week.

Rob Reiner: I'm going to make a coming of age drama, a fantasy adventure story, a romantic comedy, a psychological horror and then a courtroom drama.

Us: Across your entire career?

Reiner: In a 6 year period.

Us: That sounds-

Reiner: -Each one will be arguably the best movie in that genre.

There’s a weird way in which the West Wing is about a sort of proto-Trumpian governance style. Everyone on that show is constantly violating the Hatch Act and a small crew of viziers are deciding government policy on the fly.

I think the through line is “administration as good TV.“

I'm privileged to work with Harrison, who spent a day off as a volunteer interpreter at an immigration detention center. He wrote about the experience for Jesuits.org, and I can't recommend it enough for your Our Lady of Guadalupe feast day reading.

A husband walked into his asylum interview in Houston looking for safety and ICE dragged him out on the spot. No criminal record. Married to a U.S. citizen. Doing everything by the book.

This is becoming routine, and mixed status families are scared.

I owe you an apology. I wasn't really familiar with your theological game.
A friend who teaches theology shared with me a post about CS Lewis's Mere Christianity, which discusses foundational Christian logic across denominations. It reminded me of Dale's tweet below, and I wanted to share some thoughts here regarding modesty and respectability, which are often hot topics.

Today my daughter's preschool is holding a farewell assembly for one of her classmates whose mother has no choice but to self deport. The school is hoping it will be joyful in tone, so we might make this less upsetting for this 3 year old.

There's just no words for the uselessness of this cruelty.
