My wife is reading St. Thomas and asking why trads just talk about the marital debt part of Aquinas and not the part where he talks about wizard spells nullifying marriage?

The best Robert Duvall performance is in The Apostle, second best is Tender Mercies, third is Lonesome Dove.

Can’t comment directly, but earliest prominent Black artist working in a classical Western style that I can think of is Juan de Pareja.

Later US examples would be Robert Duncanson and Edward Bannister. Others would be Henry O Tanner, of course, Archibald Motley, William E. Scott, Laura Waring

Youngest kid: “I’m gonna get five bucks at school because I won a bet”

Aletheia: “A bet?”

Kid: “My friend bet me five dollars that the bird that accidentally flew into the gym had no eyes, but it did and now he has to pay me five dollars”

Kid culture always sounds like a medieval text.

Thinking again about the Smithsonian oral history interview with Allan Rohan Crite where he talks about American culture and how trying to narrow it to Anglo-Saxon doesn’t work even if you are talking about the colonial period.

Murals by Robert S. Duncanson in Cincinnati. Commissioned by Nicholas Longworth in the 1850s, the murals decorate the foyer of the mansion that now houses the Taft Museum.

Duncanson was one of the first major Black painters in the US, and was associated with the Hudson River School of artists.
