The other day I drew a subway-style map for The Hobbit, and it was very well received. Some of you asked if I could do one for LoTR, so I have!

Forgive the eel watermark; I'm working on making these something you can buy, if you like.

The 4th of July parade in Gold Hill, Colorado often features three Yankee Doodle musicians leading King George in chains. He roars at the crowd “Oh, do you think you’ll be better off without me? Democracy? Ha! You’ll beg to have me back!” Let’s see how that resonates this year.
Being negatively polarized against libs remains the single greatest predictor of stupid takes.
A lot of dipshit intellectuals, from across the ideological spectrum, are going to meme themselves into being unironic monarchists in response to civic republicanism becoming a popular normie position.

The year of our lord 2025 started with a rabid Musk-Trump supporter self-immolating himself in a Cybertruck parked in front of a Trump casino, trying to send us all a message.

My Aerial Firefighting Enhancement Act has now passed both chambers of Congress and is headed to the White House. I urge the president to immediately sign it as it is urgently needed to expand operations essential to firefighters battling wildfires in NM and the West.

When nothing seems to help, I go and look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before.

This morning at Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HQ in DC as mandatory return to office began, this video played on loop for ~5 mins on screens throughout the building, per agency source.

Building staff couldn’t figure out how to turn it off so sent people to every floor to unplug TVs.

Rising insurance premiums can be an important driver of climate adaptation (or at least climate resilience).

Insurance subsidies and regulations that shield consumers and businesses from the incentives these costs produce could be bad for climate preparedness.

I’m committed to posting on BlueSky because I do think it’s important for progressive intellectuals to hear from someone who is outside the left-most 90% of the population.

Something I see over and over again is a desire to unlock some semiotic key that will “disqualify” Republicans.
