Over twenty community organisations are calling on the community in Oxford to march against racism, and in 'celebration of Oxford's diverse City of Sanctuary' on Sunday in response to 'attempts to sow racist division in local communities.'
The march will start at Templars Square at 12.30.

Over 50,000 cis women have signed the @nionwomen.bsky.social open letter rejecting the narrative that trans women are a danger to women.

The real threat to women has never been trans women. The real threat to women is male violence.

As it's World Menopause Day tomorrow, check out these resources for LGBTQIA+ people. So much of the menopause information out there is cisgendered-focused so it's great to find a place that acknowledges this and offers support to all people www.queermenopause.com/resources-1

🚨This is an emergency🚨

This Government is currently sitting on an EHRC Code of Practice that will lead to the segregation and exclusion of trans people in public life.

The @cilip.bsky.social AGM has started badly - I can't attend because accessing meetings from a browser is disabled. I can't install the Zoom app on my work computer, so I'm locked out of attending

An interesting piece that shows the role libraries and archives can have in combating misinformation. I hope the optimism about our ability to combat the additional difficulties provided by AI proves justified! bigthink.com/high-culture...

I made an infographic map. Oxford's Congestion Charge scheme (from 29th Oct) is not like most congestion charge schemes, because you can get to most streets in the city without being charged. My impression is a lot of people haven't realised this.

Can any fellow CILIP members provide information on Resolution 2 for the AGM vote? There is no information about why this is proposed or what it means, and I don't want to vote without knowing what I'm voting for. (Proposal to increase no. of non-members allowed to be co-opted to Board from 3 to 5)

Without a librarian it's just a book storage area, not a library
We agree but add this: the #GreatSchoolLibraries campaign highlights that all children need a school library because adequately funded, staffed school libraries deliver enhanced & independent learning as well as reading & curriculum support & contribute to building lifelong readers. #Staffed

the post office is a public service. it doesn’t need to make money. public transit doesn’t need to make money. the library doesn’t need to make money. some things exist for the public good and we desperately need lawmakers to stop thinking about them in terms of capitalism. these are not businesses.

NOTHING will prepare you for this 45-second story arc. From "I'm just doing this because I love the flag, it's totally grassroots, and I'm not part of anything political"... to who actually gave him the flags the night before.

DV is so normalised that some of the few men who've done time for it get to cheerily get on with careers in entertainment, the press & as MPs but we're putting all this effort into pushing a minority who have nothing to do with that out of existence & pretending it'll fix things? Grow up, Britain.

New post on how we use #ImposterSyndrome when perhaps we mean #TrespasserSyndrome. 📚

My colleague Raj Mann introduced me to this new term and I can't get it out of my head. I think 'Imposter Syndrome' is a potentially harmful term we should stop misusing in Higher Ed, libraries & elsewhere...

It might not be Imposter Syndrome... We need to talk about Trespasser Syndrome — Ned Potter
Back in 2014 I wrote on this blog that Imposter Syndrome ran through librarianship like a vein. Writing now in 2025, I consider that a misdiagnosis. Imposter Syndrome is defined as a psychological co...

Based on the figures quoted by this Murdoch shitrag to drum-up anti-immigrant sentiment, foreign-born residents (and citizens!) are 15.5% less likely to be criminals, and 28% less likely to be sex offenders.

You're welcome.
Others have noted that this means foreign-born people are LESS likely than UK-born people to be in prison. What I want to note is that The Times is now referring to foreign-born UK citizens as ‘foreigners’. This includes Boris Johnson, Sir Mo Farah, Emma Watson, Rory Stewart and little old me.

Holy shit, just saw Alan Cumming’s monologue standing in for Jim’ll Kimmel “why on earth would a rapist go to the bother of pretending to be trans in a country that actually treats rapists better than trans people?” It’s a point we’ve made a lot but to put that out on network TV is a new level.
