The lack of car spaces frustrates me as a very local resident - the residents WILL have cars, they will just work around the restrictions and park on the nearby roads, clogging them up further. Expecting the residents to not have cars is naive, stupid or willfully ignorant

It might be to give them a day's grace if something goes wrong with getting the payment system live tomorrow - just to be on the safe side. But it is a little disconcerting not seeing any payment options or information about payments

Interestingly (to me, at least!) when I looked at the comments on her Facebook post about this, all the comments said pretty much this - it's not an either/or, we need the congestion charge in order to un-gridlock the buses

Yes, you can apply for free permits to go through the charge points without paying for a day - the amount you can get depends on where you live

I once got a "Cheer up, it might never happen" on the way from burying my aunt's ashes to the post-burial family meal. The guy who said it got rather an earful, and my dad got a shock learning that men say that sort of thing to women

I haven't done that section, but I will say from cycling alongside the Northern Bypass is that I struggled when I was cycling the opposite way to the traffic when you need lights on - the oncoming car lights were distracting and disorienting for me
