Librarians! Fellow authors! You might find this article about Librarians supporting authors interesting:
"I did not have the good fortune of living with parents who loved reading or in a household filled with books, but I did have an excellent local library...now that I am an author, it is once again librarians who are helping me to flourish in the absence of other support" (scroll down to read my bit)

But do pop in or ring and ask, because I took a couple of bags of toys into a local charity shop last week and they said they weren't taking them at the moment!
Love being reminded to do this every year. It's a win/win all round

I was called aggressive for criticising passages in Kate Clanchy’s memoir. But the real problem lies deep in the overwhelmingly white world of publishing

These articles elide exactly what Clanchy wrote in her book, so a reminder that she described girls going through puberty as having "Cypriot bosoms" and wearing "flirty hijabs". She also talked about Jewish noses and commented on the skull shapes of various children.

First Tiny Owl now Knights Of (& presumably more that have gone under my niche radar). So dispiriting for book buyers & devastating for their authors/illustrators.
The news is out so I can finally point at this. Yes this is my publisher of the Vivi novels. I’m devastated that another company started to change things up in this industry has failed to thrive. I don’t know any more so pls be compassionate to the authors.

It is learning to learn & question & research & digest information & form opinions. & to commit to something & build willpower & stamina & self-direction & a capability to endure tedium after 4 hours sleep & with a hangover. So many lessons learnt at uni are nothing to do with the course you choose.
Neurologically speaking, there's no such thing as 'useless' subjects or 'rip-off' degrees

Insisting we should only teach useful subjects is like saying science should only do research that gives positive results

If you honestly believe that's how anything works, *your* education was the wasted one

👶 Out of all the baby books we looked at, we found just two by British Own Voice creators.

These books deserve to be celebrated — because representation starts with the very first stories children read.
