Just got an email from my SRO for the study section that was missed in October. Good news is that they are trying to reschedule ASAP (Dec/Jan). The bad news is that CSR is mandating that only the the top third (not half) of applications will get discussed for the next 2 rounds.

PSA for people with NIH grant periods starting January 1st (including most NIGMS MIRAs): your RPPR is due Saturday, but they haven’t sent out the usual automated reminders, presumably due to the shutdown

*Differences in potential ratings account for half of the gender promotion gap
*Women’s lower potential ratings do not reflect future performance: women subsequently outperform male colleagues

Today I spent:
- 4+hours on txt/voice w/major telecom for device replacement via insurance I pay for
- 2+hours navigating duplicate subscriptions w/"bundle" contradictions and login loops

There has never been a greater need for competent consumer protections (which requires sane governance)

If you are a neuroscientist on the job market and would like to live in a stable and sane part of the country (relatively speaking!) take a good look at this position at Rochester Institute of Technology. Amazing place to work and live.

I am so saddened to read about the terrible treatment you received in the past many years, and that we as a country have turned our backs on amazing humans that come here to learn, teach, and add positivity to the world we live in. Safe travels and hoping for brighter days for all sometime.
After 13 years in the US, I’ve made the difficult decision to leave. Having packed up everything and rethought about priorities, rather painstakingly, while I’m sad to leave the life I’ve made here, I’m also relieved that I won’t have to plan my life around immigration policies anymore.

Welp. Thanks to the Republican gov shutdown I have a bunch of hours back in my week due to a NIH study section not meeting.

These poor applicants. They will be waiting week by week for government to reopen and to find out what will happen to their grant application.

So what are the bottom lines?

First, a HUGE thank you to NIH staff (particularly grants management specialists but program officers and others as well) for getting this work done in a compressed period with many other stressors.

More NIH chaos.

NICHD, NIMHD and NIAID Directors are all dismissed.
Jeanne Marrazzo, director of NIAID, claimed that the Trump Administration’s actions
endangered research subjects, defied court orders & undermined vaccine research.

Earlier, Kennedy fired Susan Monarez of the CDC.

Resisting unethical policies costs you.
