In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.
The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.
The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.
Why?
It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

The federal government has been shut down for 40 days. The continuing resolution to reopen the government, which has not passed yet, expires in 81 days. So great job all around.

new housing helps fight rent inflation by adding to the housing supply. Everyone deserves safe, affordable housing, and one reason that the Village Board voted unanimously in 2021 to set aside $2 million in TID funds for affordable housing is to address the legacy of unfair housing discrimination.

That’s a lot of words to say “I think you people are stupid.”
I will not support the Republican bill that’s on the Senate floor because it fails to do anything of substance to fix America’s healthcare crisis.

Standing up to a tyrant - who is willing to impose pain as leverage to compel loyalty or acquiescence - is hard. You can convince yourself that yielding stops the pain and brings you back to "normal".
But there is no "normal". Submission emboldens the tyrant. The threat grows.

No one is this stupid. No one is this naive. The only possible explanation for continuing to provide the votes that Trump needs, after all that he's done to hurt people and illegally seize power, is that you like what he's doing and want him to succeed.
Shaheen: "We've heard from a number of our colleagues on the other side of the aisle that they're willing to come to the table, they're willing to work with us once the govt is open to get this done. We've heard the same thing from the White House. So now we'll see if they're really gonna work w/us"

We had a moment of unity in the elections last week, a momentum that Dems could never have dreamed of, and then they turned their backs on all the voters that came out in support—to protect our democracy, our healthcare, and our neighbors. This is a colossal failure of the Democratic leadership.

This is why this surrender isn't just about this narrow issue but is rather the whole constitutional ballgame:
Democrats are affirmatively signaling they do not want political power at the same time Trump is transitioning the political system into an autocratic one wherein they're denied it forever

Not that he didn’t already know, but now Trump knows for sure he can roll the Dems every time and there’s no need to negotiate for anything

No wonder Republicans in Congress play hardball, like keeping the House in recess to avoid releasing the Epstein files, or refusing to seat a newly elected member, or voting against certifying elections, or refusing to hold votes on Supreme Court nominees, etc.

Can someone tell Senate Democrats what happened in the elections last week? We did really well everywhere, so it's not a good time to give up for nothing in return!
From what I have seen so far this does not seem like a good deal:
