Shorewood’s 2020 housing study found we need 21 new units each year until 2035 to keep up with demand & that we are lacking affordable housing options. We are already behind on this goal. It looks like Shorewood will not add any new homes in 2025 & we should make sure we don’t fall further behind.

I have voted for all the preliminary steps for this proposed development because we need more housing in Shorewood and it is a step in the right direction towards addressing Milwaukee County’s legacy of unfair, discriminatory housing policies.

This is 3 blocks down the street from the proposed affordable apartment building that will be partially funded by TID extension funds set aside in 2021, if the developer can obtain affordable housing tax credits & approval of the final application that would be submitted if tax credits are approved

Shorewood had a subdivision just west of Oakland Ave. where each lot had a covenant that said “At no time shall any of such lot or lots in said subdivision, or any building or structure thereon, be built, erected, purchased, owned, leased, occupied or used by any person other than of the white race”

Racially restrictive covenants contained language in property deeds preventing the sale of land or homes to Black people. UWM researchers mapped them across Milwaukee County.

We granted preliminary approval for a new affordable apartment building on a Village-owned parking lot, which will go forward if the developer's application for affordable housing tax credits and full application for assistance from Shorewood is approved.

Anyone can get involved in local government & serve people in their community. In Shorewood this year we approved a new long term plan for bike and pedestrian safety, began to replace all the old streetlights with new dark sky compliant LEDs, and got an additional $890,000 to replace lead pipes.
