Just so it’s clear, Cook would be in prison if he lived in Saudi Arabia
Tim Cook, the head of Apple, is having a nice dinner with MBS, who regularly orders executions, including for tweets.

Apple hosts "a Saudi app that allows men to track the movement of their wives and daughters. In 2019, Mr. Cook said he would investigate the app, but it is still available today."

The saddest part of Wicked For Good getting mediocre reviews (inevitable; the musical’s act 2 is BAD) is that we’re going to end up with another even-worse Avatar movie in our Best Picture noms.

Today is just one long demonstration of the One Special Boy virus that has consumed our polity. Immediate presidency-ending stuff for anyone else from at least Truman to Biden. We're not even pretending to care about the law or the Constitution or any of the norms or duct tape anymore.
Trump in response to an Epstein question: "ABC, your company, your crappy company is one of the perpetrators. I think the license should be taken away from ABC because your news is so fake and so wrong. And we have a great commissioner, a chairman, who should take a look at that."

I mean, it has to be One Battle After Another. That’s in the running for film of the decade.

I lost my job, my kids have measles, and it is now clear to me that the President of the United States is a pedophile. But at least I know that the Cracker Barrel logo won't be changed any time soon.

The filibuster is so fundamentally anti-democratic that forcing the authoritarian party to kill it so that they could keep taking health care and food away from Americans was probably the cleanest out from the damn thing, yet this Cones of Duneshire-ass opposition party loves rules more than wins.

The company says it’s heartbreaking, they promise improvements, new guardrails. Anything but shutting it down. Suicide is just a metric in their ongoing beta test.

Sam Altman and everyone like him should be in fucking jail.

Bsky mods are quick with the "Rude" label, and now those posters are completely hidden by default. Turn that setting off (or at least to "warn") to get interesting people back. And tell your local mods: this is not a good choice.
If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.

as a thought exercise for everyone reading ross douthat's latest missive in the NYT, i want you to think about sending an email to your entire company with the subject line "Did Women Ruin the Workplace?", then think about the over/under on the number of minutes/hours you would still be employed

Tim Walz convinced me: Free school lunches for all should be a primary talking point—a shouting point—for Democrats across the country. It’s easy to understand and easy to get behind: simultaneously an investment in our future and an exercise in basic human dignity. Free School Lunch!
