Sofa chilling, after the first Canicross of the season this morning, I’m telling myself that being on-call means I have to stay on the sofa for the rest of the day just in case.

Back from an ace We Have Ways festival, I was blown away by the response to my talk on WWII as sexual revolution. At the last minute I added material about the far right march - I believe telling the diverse truth of those who fought in the war is a powerful tool in combating the far right now (1/4)

Following on from your excellent talk at WHWF @danellin.bsky.social @marybrazier.bsky.social the Lancaster has a number of flags in on it representing the nationality of the crew and the RAF ensign (not my photo obvs). Not all flags are bad but upside down Union Jacks are a giveaway

When you find yourself somewhat mesmerised by @scaramucci.bsky.social an excellent speaker, humorous and self deprecating of course, but more than that, insightful on personal resilience and hopeful for a post-Trump world.

The NHS is in crisis. We support extra investment to help turn it around, but without fixing social care, no amount of funding will solve the problem.

I urge the Prime Minister to ensure the Spending Review finally delivers for social care and family carers.

New research provides conclusive proof that 20mph in London is saving lives.

14 yrs of analysis at 150+ sites - reviewed by experts - shows:

❤️40% fewer deaths (vs 7% drop on roads where no changes were made)
❤️75% fewer children killed & 50% fewer kids hurt

And slower speeds deliver so much more:

NEW: Tens of thousands of disabled households could face a “triple hit” of benefit cuts due to the impact on Carer’s Allowance

DWP figures show 95,000 unpaid carers stand to lose PIP - and for some the impact could be even worse

Today I highlighted James' story: a Glastonbury & Somerton resident with dementia who is stuck in hospital, scared & isolated. His family wants him home, but social care barriers in #Somerset are in the way. I called on the Govt to ensure people with dementia can live at home with dignity.

My favorite American corollary I learned recently is that Broadway theaters employ more people than the entire American coal industry.
Britain has no idea - in terms of its self-image, not economists obviously - what economy it actually has

One of my favourite facts to point out is: at over £8bn annually, the *videogames industry* is more than twice as valuable to the UK economy as fishing and steel combined.
Men are extremely keen to explain to me that Britain *needs* a domestic steel production plant and doesn't necessarily *need* universities. Okay. Steel contributed about £1.7bn to the UK economy in 2024. Universities contributed more than £200bn.
