One funny thing Elon Musk figured out about the media is if, instead of providing comment to reporters, you email back an automated reply saying "go fuck yourself," the reporters will just invent their own plausible-sounding defense of your conduct to balance their stories instead of punishing you

I've lost count of the number of times just this week that I have accidentally clicked an "AI" button in a service or software, which means a bunch of services are counting me as a regular active "AI" user despite me being about as hardcore "no generative AI, nowhere" software guy as they come.

Having lived in Minnesota , Virginia, and Louisiana, this is not an assumption, it's just true.

And so it's not an irrational response to be like "I don't trust doctors."

At the same time, it's an irrational response to be like "I don't trust anything about Western medicine, doctors are all lying to us about everything, I'm not going get shots, I'm going to drink raw milk," etc.

Yeah, this is so hard for people to accept. Well meaning people can fuck up and do harm! People who aren't well meaning can disguise *deliberate* harm as a well.meaning fuckup. Figuring out what happened when harm occurs is tricky and we might fuck that up, too.
And the thing we all have to deal with, the distress tolerance we have to build, is that there is always a chance that they'll fail us.

A designer might not notice a flaw in the airplane design they create. A surgeon might nick an artery.

What is with these white dudes who think "I wrote 20,000 words about TOPIC" is a thing to brag about? Get a goddamn editor, or learn to edit your work, I do read long form pieces and I wanna know your thoughts but expecting me to read half a novel to get them is A BIT MUCH.

Agreed!!

It's frustrating because if I ever say this to people they get defensive and think I'm judging them for doing something bad by still being there but, like, no, I think it is bad FOR YOU and I would like every well meaning human to leave that site so they won't be harmed there.
a trans woman i follow on instagram left xitter because some sick rapist fuck made porn of her using grok, i think staying on xitter at this point is actively dangerous for your well being

Hah!! This is so cool
And please, PLEASE let us not forget that time in 2023 when Karen Smith was elected President of the school board in Bucks County, Pa and swore her oath on a stack of banned books. The most gangsta oath ever! Just brilliant. www.edweek.org/leadership/t...

The school board for Central Bucks County, Pa., has been at the center of divisive political debates.

Ok, everyone, what book is sacred enough to you to get sworn in on?
Strange takes on Mayor Zamdani swearing his oath on the Qu’ran. It has nothing to do with church & state. The point of the oath is for the person swearing in to do so upon some text that is sacred TO THEM. Some Presidents swore in w/o any book. John Quincy Adams was sworn on a law book. His choice.

Multicultural difference based democracy is not feel good wokeism, it’s *anti-fascist*. That’s why they’ve been trying to get rid of it. The way to stand up to and fight fascism is demanding multiculturalism, wokeism, people centered democracy

Daaaaaaammmmnnnnn
Mayor Mamdani has nullified every executive order issued by Eric Adams after he struck his corrupt bargain with Trump to secure dismissal of the indictment against him.

This is an anti-fascist message, and it’s a beautiful one. Fascists cant abide individuals and differences and multiculturalism. They want to eradicate the individual in favor of allegiance to the authoritarian. Our love and values are meant for the authoritarian-
Mamdani: Where else can you hear the sound of the steel pan, savor the smell of sancocho, and pay $9 for coffee on the same block? Where else could a Muslim kid like me grow up eating bagels and lox every Sunday?

In 2026 I want all of the decent people to remember one thing.

You aren’t meant to be this disciplined, this self-sacrificing to survive. The environment is supposed to support good living. We can have that. You are not a failure. That is politics.

That is all.

just so it's clear: this is the exact core function of genAI

Fascist government and climate deniers love it because it can produce the aesthetics of knowledge without any actual tendency towards truth. It is automated denialism.

Shame on every climate scientist promoting its use (there are lots)
Bob and I were among the hundreds of researchers that were supposed to conduct the 6th U.S. National Climate Assessment. Now it looks like they're gonna produce it with a few people and Grok? Communities need rigorous and accurate information about climate change. This will put communities at risk.

The only reason Walz is running for a third term is because he knows he can't get elected president in 2028 as an ex-governor. It's time for DFL sycophants to get their heads out of their ass and have a talk with him.

These patterns of escalation are unfortunately very predictable.

I’m sure these business are also receiving harassing phone calls and threats too. It’s scary.

In the fight for civil rights, numerous elementary schools were bombed by racist segregationists to protest integration.
This is the impact of networked incitement. And now every other “citizen journalist” wannabe Nick Shirley is on the ground in Washington, Ohio, and I assume elsewhere trying to break/make the next viral story. There’s potential for this to spin further out of control, hoping it doesn’t
