If you ever wonder why your artist friend is so pissed off whenever they see AI slop used instead of real, human-created art, it's exactly what you think:
How is AI *really* impacting jobs?

Henley Chiu, the CTO of Revealera, a jobs data analysis firm, analyzed 180 million jobs listings in 2024 and 2025, in an effort to find out. Chiu found an:

-8% drop in all jobs postings
-~30% drop in art, photography, writing jobs
-22% drop in journalism jobs
What’s really going on with AI and jobs?
Record-breaking layoff reports, Amazon's mass firings, and a slump in entry level employment. Is AI behind it all?

She's demonstrating how she uses Copilot to write a press release. She emphasises that she checks it, edits it, checks that the AI-generated quote "from her boss" is OK. Or drafts talking points for her boss based on transcripts from previous presentations, questions from a journalist and an op-ed.

Norway is no. 3 in AI adaptation, says Cornelia Bjerke-Hill from Microsoft Norway, a company that sells AI. But we can use MORE AI. She's going to tell us how they integrated Copilot into everything they do at Microsoft so we can do it too. "I use it for social media of course, like everyone does."

From the discourse emerges a truly interesting question!

(I vote for Julia Ducournau, but why settle for just one adaptation? Kent is great.)
Can we get a major Frankenstein movie by a female director?

This was a book by a mother. Let's see a film by a mother.

I've got the perfect candidate: Jennifer Kent. 12/

it's not that i ever doubted that being a barista was a skilled position, but my year-long effort to try to produce a half-decent latte at home has convinced me that a good barista is easily more skilled than virtually every c-suite executive on the planet

We don’t use generative AI at Strange Scaffold and I can confirm that a *lot* of other studios are not—whether indie or AAA.

Get outta here with this normalization bullshit.

Great thread on why the Nordic model of sex work is an abject failure and the only approach that has ever actually improved sex worker safety is full decriminalization
Looks like the push for the failed nordic model is in full swing in #germany, with this from DW's Berlin in English newsletter.

The nordic model has never worked, and does not actually make anyone safer. It increases marginalisation & stigmatisation of sex workers, and disincentivizes safety.

It is hard to come up with a better analogy for whiteness than preferring the AI simulacra of your supposed authentic art form to whatever a Black woman from your art form’s cultural geography might make.
As long as it's not Beyonce country music fans are fine with this development

Yes, "pregnant people" is inclusive language that describes pregnant cis women AS WELL AS trans men and nonbinary people, a lot of whom can get pregnant. But it also describes, like, 12-year-old girls who get pregnant. Do centrist pig-dogs think THEY are "women" too? Coz...bit of a red flag, that.

A biologist at the American Museum of Natural History, Jonathan Coddington, cataloged a new genus of South American spiders in 1986.

Two things about the spider were unique:
they lived in caves & laid cubic eggs.

So he called them genus 'Plato', and that's the nerdiest thing I have read all year.
Diminutive fairy wombat poop. Tiny cubes under 2mm on each side.

These are egg sacs made by a spider in the family Theridiosomatidae.

They made yesterday’s hike special. Finding something I’ve never seen before is such a thrill.

Oh, I love this. A new species of sea anemone was discovered recently that parks itself on top of a hermit crab shell like a hat. It seems to feed partly off the crab's faeces, but it also excretes a hard shell that extends the crab's home. In return, it's carried around the seafloor like a king.

Did you know. That the meme-explosion that was the wooden model of Sacabambaspis (an Ordovician jawless fish) held at a Museum in Helsinki, was created by a pioneering Estonian fish paleontologist and palaeoartist, Elga Mark-Kurik. 🧵
