Thank heavens for this post. Here I was going crazy thinking it was just my setup with old equipment. The TV is the best I've seen, but the software is the absolute worst. Like Sean says below, I'd pay good money to turn off every feature and just use the TV as a monitor.
Samsung makes a great TV. But these two things drive me up the wall and wish I'd bought LG.
