Opened Bsky to post about it, and this is the first post I saw. The initial reviews are TARE-EE-BEE-LAY. And even though I’ve never read it or seen any screen adaptation of Wuthering Heights, I’m still hoping to see it this weekend 🤞. (I didn’t see Saltburn 📽️, which people I trust and like *hated*)
I think the problem with most Wuthering Heights screen adaptations is they they strip down a layered and blistering take on class politics , intimate partner abuse , abuse , mental health and patriarchy into an emotional what love story which is not what the novel is .

There are few times anymore when I wish I still had linear TV, but this is one of them. And I know people are gonna say that Gaga’s just doing what Madonna did, because they always say that. But this is different.

A frightful bloodletting occurred today at the Washington Post. It’s been my go-to, and I’ve defended it despite all that’s happened. But so many of the authors I follow were let go today. And the NYT is so very, very elitist, I can hardly stand to read it, even though it’s by far the best. 😞

One of my favorite jokes of all time is "Adolph Hitler Commits Suicide" being a tiny headline under the banner story about a hare-vs-tortoise race ... in 1943, two years before Hitler committed suicide. He was alive and well when the Warner Bros. cartoonists made this joke.

Since this movie has been taken up by a surprisingly large group of North Americans who know little else about Indian cinema, my recommendation if you see it is: Start a count in your head of all the castration metaphors it has. Male rape also counts.
