This week’s Starfleet Academy starts with a sex scene and then proceeds to get darker and darker from there. We’re only six episodes in, so I’m not completely sold on it yet, but if you’re avoiding the latest Star Trek because you’re afraid it’s like DISCO, I’m telling you, it’s not that. 🖖 #TrekSky

have to hand it to him, murphy's little chuckle at "your contention is that white food... is being erased?" is great
Trump nominated a legit white nationalist to a top post at the State Department. I asked him some basic questions about his belief in the “erasure of white culture”. Watch this embarrassing, fumbling answer. Like he has never before been asked to explain his views.

Oh no
Would not have bet on "G.O.A.T." getting significantly better reviews than "Wuthering Heights"

The new version of the @apnews.com app has widgets, if you’ve been holding out for them to come back.

🎶All my mornings are Mondays / Stuck in an endless February 🎶

There’s a low-fi instrumental version of this song playing as a bumper on SXM Chill, and I have repeatedly failed to track it down. Attempt #47 at least.

Another late night lost in America. Everyone I ghosted, &c.

I fully expect to hear about this on the show today. “Over $50,000.”

How can you not, really?

For anyone following the El Paso story, CNN just updated its live coverage with more information than anyone else has, even Reuters. Follow their coverage here:

The Federal Aviation Administration abruptly issued a temporary flight restriction that immediately grounds all flights to and from El Paso International Airport in Texas for 10 days — a shutdown that...

El Paso TFR is not like the 9/11 nationwide airspace shutdown. DC & NY restrictions were created later. A ban on all flights over a U.S. city—including medevac and police helicopters—has no modern precedent.-CNN

The FAA has issued a separate security NOTAM for Santa Teresa, New Mexico, banning all flight operations in the affected area for the same time window and altitude limits as the El Paso airspace closure, citing “special security reasons.”

See, if I were the clue writer, I would have said Shah Rukh, Aamir or Salman.

Just got this notification from @economist.com. Oppenheimer’s quote before TPTB took him down—more relevant now than ever, and now, there are more than two scorpions in the bottle. And Margot Robbie has a new movie premiering this weekend.

Barbenheimer was a warning we didn’t heed.

Which is all to say, it may be a while, and in any case, definitely after reading Little Women and seeing the new Emerald Fennell adaptation.

Do you think this is a mistake? If, as you say, all other adaptations of Wuthering Heights are just as bad.

Louisa May Alcott’s father was a disastrous mess as a person, and she ended up having to take care of him. And he brought her down with him.

As a former caregiver and a former American Lit nerd…yeah, I have to read Alcott (fille) now. She’s a lacuna in my knowledge that I MUST FILL. ->

So, even though I used to be an Americanist, I never read Little Women 😓 because I think it was too kid-lit for college curricula, and it’s generally not assigned in high school. But I saw the Greta Gerwig movie last fall and immediately added the book to my list. ->

The latest British thing I read was Never Let Me Go, which I actually really liked, with a high-test book club, AGES ago. And I only really agreed to read that one because Ishiguro is Asian British, and that intrigued me. (No, I didn’t see the movie they made out of it) ->

OK, true confession time.

[Takes deep breath]

One of my degrees is in ENGL, but I consistently avoided Brit Lit, because at that time I considered myself an Americanist. I took the usual Chaucer/Shakespeare/Milton to fulfill reqs, and then nothing else but American Lit. Plus film courses. ->

Opened Bsky to post about it, and this is the first post I saw. The initial reviews are TARE-EE-BEE-LAY. And even though I’ve never read it or seen any screen adaptation of Wuthering Heights, I’m still hoping to see it this weekend 🤞. (I didn’t see Saltburn 📽️, which people I trust and like *hated*)
I think the problem with most Wuthering Heights screen adaptations is they they strip down a layered and blistering take on class politics , intimate partner abuse , abuse , mental health and patriarchy into an emotional what love story which is not what the novel is .

There are few times anymore when I wish I still had linear TV, but this is one of them. And I know people are gonna say that Gaga’s just doing what Madonna did, because they always say that. But this is different.
Lady Gaga performed a special salsa version of “Die With A Smile” during Bad Bunny’s #SuperBowlLX halftime show!
