For my latest piece, I spent the weekend writing about sports' response to the killing of Alex Pretti, slave patrol resistance in 1850s Boston, anarchist calisthenics, and overcoming nihilism to ensure we abolish ICE.

They hope sports helps you forget Alex Pretti. Make them abolish ICE instead.

That's not to say that the existence of GLP-1s are directly making people more bigoted in their anti-fatness. But their marketing relies on extremely anti-fat tropes, floods the airwaves with anti-fat messages, and sends the message that anti-fatness is not just pro-health, it's morally righteous.

Not sure if anyone else has said this but Sawchik was clearly hired by MLB to write anti labor talking points ahead of the CBA

He wrote an article two weeks ago on payroll differences which ended “Removing that cloud, discarding that talking point, would take interest in the game to another level”

More than 400 people, including hundreds of citizens, were “sorted” at gun point into racial and ethnic groups by 200 ICE agents who fired flash-bang grenades into cars with people inside, pointed guns at children & demanded their zip tied parents not comfort them. apple.news/Ausdx6kWtT0e...

There's a link between the AI disruption and the authoritarian political attacks on expertise. Highly educated white collar folks considered ourselves to be a powerful culture, on the basis of our expertise & credentials. But that's not where power comes from, and we're learning that the hard way.
All I'm saying here is that there's a strong air from white collar people like we're not supposed to be disrupted. That's for blue collar folks. But we're not special. We never have been. Just lucky. And eventually your luck runs out. Capitalism comes for everybody eventually.

The power we had was incidental, based on contingent historical & economic arrangements. We were not organized or prepared to defend ourselves, and even worse, our lack of cross-class solidarity as workers means nobody else is sympathetic or showing up to save our institutions or projects either.

A hallmark of conspiracy thinking is citing contradictory evidence with no coherent narrative.

If COVID emerged in summer 2019, then it also nukes the lab leak theory. Their best evidence is a few Wuhan Lab researchers getting sick in Nov. If the virus was already circulating, then it's irrelevant

Lab leak truthers love to point out that "only" one-third to one-half of early cases were directly linked to the market but you know how many were linked to the lab?

Zero.

Plus if the virus had emerged in the summer there would have been *far* more than hundreds of cases by January.

*new* from me:

As pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training, three front office staffers spoke to me about helping Latino baseball players and their families navigate an America ravaged by ICE raids.

They say guidance from MLB has been “minimal” so their teams are getting creative.
How do MLB workers protect Latin players from Trump's ICE raids? By themselves.
Front office staffers told eyeblack about keeping immigrant players safe while league guidance is minimal and "Manfred kisses Trump's ass."

I know there's probably no blockbuster coming, but this would be my last ditch effort to salvage the deadline if I were in the Warriors front office.
If the Clippers are listening on Zubac... is Kawhi gettable? Warriors SHOULD be desperate enough to gamble on a godfather offer.

Warriors probably had the draft capital and salaries to acquire BOTH Anthony Davis and Jaren Jackson Jr.
It's just not acceptable that the Warriors didn't come away with at least one of those guys given what they did instead.
Maybe there's another deal coming, but I don't see it.
