The pacing of modern television is so cooked, it takes 4 hour-long episodes to cover what would be 45 minutes of The Vampire Diaries.

My wife walks in on me watching this, overhearing intense biblical analysis and asks what I'm listening to.

I say "New Jacob Geller video" and she rolls her eyes as she hears the words "Hollow Knight: Silksong".
My new essay, on Silksong, faith, and the Book of Revelation, is now available on Nebula: nebula.tv/videos/jacob...

sort of incredible to read a review that doesn't just made a vague nod at AI being bad, but actively reckons with the ways in which falling obsessively to AI usage actively obliterates the artistic intent and integrity of the work you've made.

This is by far one of the funniest interviews I've ever read, good for them.

"Yeah we don't like large teams, time management software or spending any money at all really and that let us enjoy making a video game for 7 years"
BREAKING: Silksong will be out on September 4. Two weeks from today. Really.

Often, games that take 7+ years to make are plagued by mismanagement and painful burnout. But for Silksong? Team Cherry was having a blast. They still are.

This is their story: www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...
Why ‘Silksong’ Took Seven Years to Make
The highly anticipated indie game has been in production for so long that it’s become an internet meme

I love doing stuff like this, because I'll solve like 200 and I suddenly start dreaming in Picross.
Someone made a website where we all collectively solve every possible 5x5 Nonogram (aka Picross) 😅

11,263 down, 24,965,248 to go! Let's do it, folks!

Game funding is in a drought, yes, but not because good games aren’t out there.
It’s that no one with money wants to fund something that isn’t already a success in disguise.
That’s not investment, or partnership- it’s financialization of art.
Hey,

To my game dev peeps out there,
what is your number one challenge related to obtaining funding for the game you’re trying to develop? 💜

Listen I'm not saying I'm not honoured, okay? Especially if we're talking early seasons for these characters... But... How did I get an 83% match with a Robot that can only speak in referential media- oh...

I don't want an AI that renders images that vaguely resemble Ghibli films. I want an AI - or just a regular I - that informs everyone the man's name was Yoshifumi Kondo, he's the guy who designed the characters you think of when you think of "Ghibli", and he died in 1998 at age 47 from overwork

One of the best video essays I've seen in a long time - and the very first upload from this creator too! It's about the pain felt by artists who lose access to tools they spent years learning. Just love it. Creator: @endvertex.bsky.social

So did really well, probably my best performing video of all time, which is a big surprise since I didn't use most of my usual tricks.

But I wanted to share something really interesting about this one, from a "YouTuber" perspective.
Been a while since my last tutorial, but messing around with the relatively new #Godot Compute Shaders gave me inspiration! youtu.be/QjrAJwaUy64

I quite enjoyed it. If you like DontNod's stuff it's more of that.

Forspoken is one of the most fascinating games I've ever played, the experience is a pendulum that swings from mild annoyances to metered euphoria.

And at 7 hours in I feel like they've suddenly unlocked the game I was waiting to play all along.

Are you a cool person who knows me and/or Jacob? Do you enjoy jovial conversations about Found Footage films?

No? Well apply anyway! If we don't get enough guests, Jacobs gonna make me ask my mum.
So Don't Stop Recording, yeah? @madalaski.bsky.social and I are mapping out Season 2 and considering bringing on a few guests - anyone who'd be equally up for chatting about found-footage media. Ping me a message if you'd be intrigued - or know someone who would be!
