“Four of my children just evaporated,” Badran said, holding back tears. “I looked for them a million times. Not a piece was left. Where did they go?”

There are no words to adequately describe the evil here.
Israel used weapons in Gaza that made thousands of Palestinians evaporate
US-made thermal weapons burning at 3,500C caused 2,842 people to "evaporate" in Gaza, Al Jazeera investigation finds.

I always think of Kincora when people say it's like this 'now' although this is clearly bigger.

The UK govt spent decades actively using child sex abusers & covering up to protect politicians, while shaming victims. They framed a man and sent him to jail for manslaughter for trying to expose it.
We all live in Jeffrey Epstein's world now. That's what we can't face. It's our world. Where sexual desire for children is protected, victims receive no justice & the President of what used to be called the free world is Jeff's friend. This is Jeff's World now.

On RTE 1 there, Today with David McCullagh, @mcculld.bsky.social asks: "what advice would you give to road users?"

RSA spokesperson: "Very dangerous conditions for drivers." Continues to talk about drivers. Drivers only.

DMC: "any advice for any other road users such as cyclists?"

RSA: "Eh...."

I was wearing hi vis when a motorist drove into me. Passengers in the car got out to tell me the driver was really upset because she didn't see me. I didn't have much sympathy as I was picking gravel out of my hands.

I was visible. She didn't look.
The hi viz will work great when I'm hit by a motorist looking at their phone.

The reason why cyclists and pedestrians push back against these types of campaigns is not because we think visibility is bad (I wear hig-viz!), but because it's victim blaming that diverts attention from the real issues: dangerous drivers and poor infrastructure

My dad who wears hi vis, reflectors, lights, the works, he's impossible to miss, got hit around Xmas time last year (he is thankfully fine now, but it could have been much worse). It's inattentive drivers, not poor visibility.
This is why being forced to wear hi -viz is so frustrating. Those of us who commute by bike understand that you can be as lit as a Christmas tree and it makes absolutely no difference. It’s just a method of victim blaming.
I don’t think it matters how much hi-viz a person is wearing when an Amazon delivery van is reversing down the footpath at speed - just saw this on Griffith Ave in Dublin. The footpath’s wide enough to fit a van so sure enough some delivery driver will attempt to bomb down it backwards. #RoadSafety

It is the paucity of imagination which is most striking about this Government.

It somehow has no ideas, all bad.

The Battle of Cable Street. On 4 October 1936 Mosley tried to march his blackshirts through the East End, by concentration the most Jewish area in the world. The gov't refused to ban it. The Jewish press counseled calm. The Communist Party refused to assist, not wanting to be seen as hooligans.

There are real people, real women, real girls whose images have been edited by grok at the request of users.

This is not some fictionalised, nebulous harm.

That the 'adults in the room' and 'rules-based order' governments are humming and hawwing over taking a firm line on this is extraordinary

The only logical conclusion from this now is that the Government here, and governments around Europe, are absolutely terrified of being dragged into another battle with the richest man in the world who is hellbent on their removal; or with his ally in the White House over regulation.

We will have about 13,000 in 2025. About half will be allowed stay. I don't think 6,500 extra people in a population of 5 million is a threat to "social cohesion". Not being able to afford a home or to see a doctor or not having to wait 3 years for my kid's needs to be assessed is.

This is the malaise in Ireland’s democracy.

A Democracy where politicians are in constant office, but do not respond to citizens’ wishes (or even just their own voters’ interests) but just advance the policies that suit monied lobbies is a disaffection machine.

Because people lose hope.

We pay taxes to build and maintain the infrastructure of the state. That includes providing people with basic necessities such as access to shelter. That includes providing each of us with disability supports when we need them. If the government can't honour that contract it's time to find a new one
