Ok, ok. The shock has settled down. PayGap.ie is now an award winning website, taking home the Social Impact award from the Analytics Institute. I'm thrilled and humbled, we had an amazing night at the gala, and you could have knocked me over with a feather when they said I'd won it.
Lads. LADS. What is happening?!!
Watched The Perfect Neighbour on Netflix this morning. I hope Susan Lorincz never knows a moment of peace for the rest of her days. Horrific.

The fact that you can bet on war. And that people avail of it to profit? And that other people rig the betting by leaking info so their mates can profit from war betting?

Jesus we are actually cooked. Humanity is done, pack it up folks.

Fuck me.
This person went on a buying spree over the past 24 hours. Fresh wallet. Only existed since Dec 27th and has only bet on Venezuela-related markets.

My injection day is the first of every month, so happy new year to the thing that keeps my brain from exploding most of the time. Happy new year also to the person who invented auto pen injectors, you're the real GOAT.

So the post that I was assured would arrive yesterday (after a delay in being sorted) did not, in fact, arrive yesterday. Tracking now says address is incomplete despite it including an eircode which is, effectively, my complete address. I am losing it.
Me, mid December ordering buckles from an EU supplier so that they will arrive quickly and I can support EU and Irish businesses rather than Amazon.

Me today, crying out to the universe "where the F are my buckles"

For real though, I know there's a lot of post this time of year but where buckles!?

This is the definitive Batman for me. If I imagine Batman, it's this cartoon version. He had a sense of humour that is chronically lacking from every movie incarnation now, those Batmen are grim and gritty and dark and allergic to cracking a smile. Where are the jokes Batmen? The wry commentary?
Were 90s kids clamoring for a Batman cartoon with 1930s Art Deco aesthetics? Is that what the market demanded? Or did some really smart creative people have a vision and make a genre-defining hit that sustained 20 years of TV shows? If you want success look for vision, not just metrics.

Sorry but we literally debunked this like last month when he did this dog whistle. Fintan O'Toole literally did the maths, in the Times no less, that showed that this isn't true.

Why are we bothering to publish such an obvious lie when we know it's a lie?

Out of curiosity, I just ran a few paragraphs from The Butchering Art through an AI checker and it got flagged: 88% AI. This book was released in 2017, and AI machines were subsequently trained off it. How many writers are getting flagged for AI because of the literal theft of their work(s)? Insane.
OMG - f*ck AI for ruining the em-dash for writers. I use them all the time. Of course, what a shock that AI uses them since they were trained off my voice and other authors' voices.
I'm a writer who has specifically been directed *not* to use em-dashes because "they mean it was written by AI." I can detect AI writing, but it is not simply a matter of the punctuation used.

In addition to cutting out the anti-immigration rhetoric, the govt. actually needs to change things so that women don't torpedo their finances and careers just to have a baby. For example, why is paid maternity leave a perk and not mandatory? Why is parental leave unpaid?

Here’s the report and it’s worth reading in full. Our current anti-immigrant, anti-integration trajectory is not only morally reprehensible but is leading us toward a demographic disaster #speirghorm

Related: I'm taking recommendations for things to binge watch while I knit and embroider. Any great youtube rabbitholes to fall down? Some cosy series to binge on a streaming service?

I enjoy mystery/true crime type things (but obviously will be somewhat multi-tasking), light comedy, etc.
Today is the first day in forever where I have basically nothing to do. Whenever I stop doing all the things, I sometimes look back and wonder how I was actually managing to do all the things without falling over. It's good to take breaks every now and again.

Arguably it was time to buy earlier this year, but certainly it seems like prices will simply continue to rise and rise so if you need it, better get it asap.

The ram I bought for my computer in July at ~150 euro now can't be got for less than 900 euro and you'd be lucky to get it at that.
Public service announcement: Due to AI data centres distorting the market, the price of RAM is going bananas.

1) If you have an old desktop computer you don’t use, it may have hundreds of euros of RAM in it.
2) If you need a new computer, it is likely the price will rise. It might be time to buy.

I see there’s a post about microplastics going around with a photo of drinking straws, so here is my semi-regular reminder that the 3 biggest sources of microplastics are tires (45%), synthetic clothing particles (35%) and paint (~10%).
Lay article attached:
One of the biggest microplastic pollution sources isn’t straws or grocery bags – it’s your tires
Every few years, the tires on your car wear thin and need to be replaced. But where does that lost tire material go? The answer, unfortunately, is often waterways, where the tiny microplastic particle...

We leave the door to the press open so we know the immersion is on, which mostly works, but fancy hat is a great shout in fairness.

We also employ "thing in way" in our house. Need to remember thing? Have you tried putting thing in way? Can't forget thing if thing in way.
First time my mum went to my dad's parents house she noticed my granddad had a party hat on. Seemed odd as there was no party.
"Why is he wearing that?" she asked my dad later.
"It's because he's so forgetful," said my dad. "My mum makes him wear it every time he's switched the immersion heater on."
