It really would be nice to have some serious discussion of this or other mechanisms to support independent (non-rich) media. It is nuts that people apparently think campaign ads can influence elections, but what people see between the ads doesn't.

On JSTOR, dipping into Angela Carter essays and stories published in journals roughly 1975-1990. I went for "The Tiger's Wife," but also found "Notes on the Gothic Mode," which she wrote as she was writing The Sadeian Woman and the Ideology of Pornography. www.jstor.org/stable/20158...

You know who else tried to tell us?

Charlotte friends, if you know an org that needs whistles, you know who to call. 💕
I'm seeing people wonder why ICE is going after Charlotte.

ICE has been at war with Charlotte's sheriff ever since he won in 2018.

We'd covered this at Bolts back in the day; this quote is from that sheriff:
“When the 8 African American sheriffs took over the largest counties in North Carolina, it became a threat to the good ol’ boy system,” says the sheriff of Charlotte. These new sheriffs broke ties with ICE.

But GOP lawmakers cracked down this week, overbidding the governor’s veto to adopt this law:

Record profits are unpaid wages.
Amazon announced 14,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $40M last year.

UPS announced 48,000 layoffs. Its CEO made over $24M last year.

Intel announced 20,000 layoffs. Its new CEO's pay package is valued at nearly $69M.

This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.

North Carolina GOP Is Cracking Down on the Black Sheriffs Who Stood Up to ICE
Boosted by new supermajorities, Republicans are closing in on legislation to mandate more collaboration with ICE and preempt local policies hard-won by immigrants’ rights advocates.

I have some bad news for you about scores & scores of esteemed Harvard professors…
Harvard disgraces itself every day it continues to bestow the "University Professor" title on Summers
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

I wanted to share probably the most important sermon I’ve given and it’s while I’m being arrested. It’s torture pure and simple what happens at #Broadview. I’m ok, though I was thrown to the ground and choked with my pectoral cross. A review of the video shows I was peaceful - did I deserve this?

If you ever found find yourself writing and publishing a sequence of words like this, you should:
a. go sit in a room by yourself and reflect on the life choices that led you to that moment, and
b. not be allowed within 1000 years or schools, day cares, and other facilities serving young people
Let us also not lose sight of how weird of an aside this is in the second graph

Universality is key.
Universal basic income.
Universal healthcare.
Universal college.
Universal childcare.

We need to make a NEW New Deal with all Americans. We're ALL in this together.
This is could well be a historic midterm for Democrats.

Don’t waste it on centrists who won’t come through when it matters. Run vocal progressives.

You won’t end Trumpism without anti-corruption crusaders and warriors for social and economic justice who believe in taxes & big, universal programs.
Those claiming Dems should retreat on racial justice aren't hard-headed realists, they're pushing against the electoral tide rather than leaning into it. The story of Gen Z isn't about racist backlash or red-pilled young men. It's the most racially progressive generation in American history. 🧵
