Beloved Minnesota, we don't want to leave you. But we have to return to Chicago for at least a few days to wrap up some reporting.

We need to purchase new safety gear and replenish funds. If you'd like to support our frontline and investigative work (we love monthly pledges!)—here's how to do that:

A lot voted for the idea of "go door to door to get illegals out of the country" but had no capacity to imagine what that would entail in practice. It's the same level of thinking behind MAGA's "press insurrection act button and win."
Did anyone actually vote to have masked Federal agents hold US citizens down and shoot them in the back?

This state violence was facilitated by rhetoric that dehumanized the (mostly) white middle class protesters at Kent State. The day before students were killed, their Governor described them as "worse than the Brownshirts, and the Communist element, and also the Night Riders, and the vigilantes."

Kent State's student body was fairly conservative, but the presence of troops on campus had radicalized many of them. This is how Ohio's governor described these young people: "We’re up against the strongest, well-trained, militant revolutionary group that has ever been assembled in America."

Following the Kent State massacre in May 1970, a Gallup poll showed that 58% of Americans thought the shootings were justified. The night *before* the killings, Ohio's GOP governor described the student protesters this way: "They're the worst type of people that we harbor in America."

Based on the debates of yore, a couple of Cato interns should be able to tackle that.
Don’t forget we also need to dismantle the Heritage Foundation.

Graham Linehan proves the point that trans liberationists have been saying from the start:

If you'll permit dehumanising and stripping the rights of trans people, you will dehumanise and strip the rights of anyone on a long enough timeline.
This is exactly the same playbook Graham Linehan uses against trans people, where defending trans rights is cast as defending "rape" and "paedophilia." He uses "rape" and "paedophilia" as punchlines, and, therefore, all of his hate speech and advocation for violence against his enemies is justified.

if only someone were president for 8 years so they could do something about ICE or Guantanamo Bay
The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.

If you’re feeling helpless amidst the ongoing horrors being perpetrated by ICE… engage in mutual aid.

Donate to someone in need. Give to a community library or food bank.

You could also help Rodney Taylor, a disabled double amputee who’s been held by ICE for a year.

His story is often forgotten:
Help Rodney Taylor, a Disabled Double Amputee Being Held by ICE
Rodney has been in the country more than 40 years. He's in solitary confinement in Georgia, being denied disability accommodations and having his medical needs ignored. He must be released.

seeing conservatives admit alex pretti was disarmed and need to change their message to “well you know where you won’t get shot? at home” is just an impressive level of pathetic allegiance to their dictator

People are right to be incensed, but there are more names to uplift. ICE killed an immigrant man named Silverio Villegas González in Chicagoland. He had children. Victor Manuel Diaz was kidnapped in Minneapolis and died in ICE custody on January 14. Their names deserve to be repeated, too.

Two statements that are compatible.

a. I don't think concealed carry is a good policy.

b. I do not believe that someone carrying a gun in compliance with a state's gun laws gives federal law enforcement the right to murder them.
