The Council already voted 8-4 to fund RCV after voters overwhelmingly voted to implement it, 70% of Felder’s own Ward 7 constituents included. I’m sure the fact that he narrowly won a crowded race by just over 500 votes is totally unrelated to his ‘lack of confidence’ 🫠

Just implement it. Constituencies rarely tell you with such clarity what they want. A government agency rarely says it's ready to go. C'mon.
Fresh off grilling elections officials at a hearing yesterday, Wendell Felder introduces a bill meant to delay the implementation of ranked-choice voting.

A similar push failed during the budget talks. And, FWIW, BOE said Monday it was on track to have RCV ready by June...

Voters were clear that this was what they wanted. It’s a good program that expands democracy and the Board of Elections has told us they are ready to implement. It’s time to move forward.

what’s that? Anita Bonds being obfuscatory in her language? how very out-of-character for her
At last, we know Bowser's 2026 plans: but what about Anita Bonds? Sources tell me she's discussed retiring/endorsing aide Kevin Chavous to replace her.

When I talked to her last night, she said she's running...but also that she's 50-50. It's confusing! Here's what I know:

This is a deeply unsurprising response, but I will repeat it yet again: we—DC residents—are unified in stating that we want federal agents and the National Guard out of our city, and they do not keep us safer. This has always been about control, not public safety.
US Defence Secretary Hegseth: Trump has asked for 500 additional troops to be deployed to Washington, DC, after two National Guard members were shot.

This deal to reopen the government is fucking disgraceful.

Tens of millions will lose their healthcare. Trump will be emboldened.

This is exactly what’s wrong with Democratic Party leadership and why we need more people in Congress who will actually hold the line.

People want to talk about supporting our Black, native Washingtonians. Then they strip the very laws that our people have benefited from for decades - and pay lip service in the process while stealing opportunity from straight under their feet. Shame.

First it was single family, then it was new builds, now 2-4 units. The single greatest tool we have for preserving affordable housing and building generation wealth. . All sales going forward will be to be venture capital firms and private equity. This major door to homeownership closed.
Lewis George's amendment fails on a 9-4 vote. And thus, the D.C. Council just exempted almost all 2-4 unit buildings in the city from TOPA. (Which wasn't initially included in the underlying RENTAL Act.)

To the 31 House Democrats who voted with Trump: I would never vote to disenfranchise your constituents, undermine their democratic rights, or impose harsher penalties on them against their will. Regrettably, you have done exactly that to my constituents and legislative body. Shame 😪
Today 31 Democrats chose to side with Donald Trump over DC.

We did not ask for this. It will not make us safer. And fueling this fascist president's agenda is dangerous for our entire country. (🧵)

Pirro has already shown us she is bad for our communities. DC don't want her — we want power over our local prosecutor, permanently. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

This isn't a complete thought yet, but calling provoked responses to psychologically abusive behavior "reactive abuse" doesn't sit right with me.

I think tyrants win in our world so often because we think it's *always* wrong to fuck someone up, even if they deserve it.

Sometimes, they gotta pay.

$170 billion to build hidden prisons with no oversight. To put this in perspective, this is 62% larger than the entire federal prison system.

$170 billion to drag people out of their places of work, parks, homes.

So please believe me when I say this. Things have changed.

ICE is going to be the vehicle for fascism in this country.

🚨Hidden within the budget presented to the DC Council this week was a provision that would roll back essential protections for our vibrant immigrant community – neighbors who are a vital thread within the District’s fabric.
It was five years ago that Mayor Muriel Bowser called D.C. a "proud sanctuary city," but now she’s trying to scrub the designation and protections it offers some immigrants. 51st.news/bowser-moves...
Bowser moves to formally repeal D.C.’s ‘sanctuary city’ status
Four lines of text buried deep in a 300-page budget bill reflect the changing posture of D.C. officials on immigration.

Hasn't fully conceded, will wait for RCV count and weigh an independent run, but beginning to admit that Mamdani will be the nominee.

DC voters read the initiative and voted overwhelmingly for its timeline as written. This “pause” of the timeline of the wage increase IS by definition a repeal.
#BreakingNews - DC council votes 8-4 to temporarily pause $2 per hour wage increase in tipped worker law … to further assess impact … amid pledges that law itself won’t be repealed.

Thank you to DC Council members Parker, Lewis George, Frumin, and Nadeau for voting to stay with the will of the people and to stick with the plan to raise the sub-minimum wage.

I'm astonished that the other members of DC Council chose to override a policy that DC voters overwhelmingly support.
Yes, I was among the no votes. The four no votes were: me, Lewis George, Frumin, Nadeau.
