The weirdest thing about this discourse is that states with shorter school closures have the same amount of learning loss! I keep waiting for all the punditry on this to catch up with basic facts
Every time Covid and learning loss hits the news, people act like the only factor is folk staying home and learning online, rather than… Living through a global mass death event.

The RENTAL Act was bad and rotten from the start. It’s like sole source sports betting - we’ll continue to discover it’s even worse than we already thought.
Oops! DC's housing/development agency forfeited ~$35m in federal money after bailing out a project helmed by Green Teamer Buwa Binitie.

Suzie Amanuel aptly shows how this was conveniently left out of the debate on the housing market for the RENTAL Act:

Jesus Christ. So much wrong with this including that a 15 year old is not barely legal. It’s pieces of shit like this who made me feel it was OK to be sexually assaulted as a teenager.
Megyn Kelly: "I know somebody very close to this case…Jeffrey Epstein, in this person's view, was not a pedophile…He was into the barely legal type, like he liked 15 year old girls…He wasn't into like 8 year olds…There's a difference between a 15 year old and a 5 year old."

This article was fascinating because the access was engineered by the Mayor's PR team to try and make her look good but the facts on the ground make her look so naive. She's still waiting on the "peter out" of the National Guard and ICE like a rube. Gift link: wapo.st/43thCLr

While feds are cutting support for housing, so is DC.

There is no city funding for 2026 for permanent supportive housing for individuals experiencing homelessness. Shelters are at 95% capacity. Other voucher programs are shrinking, pushing people back into homelessness, including families.
This is far worse than anyone expected.

Trump's HUD plan would cut *two-thirds* of permanent housing and push as many as 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the street—redirecting funds to work mandates, forced treatment, and encampment sweeps.

All as mass internment camps are being built.

We live in sad times. While the Mayor was cutting a ribbon on the Takoma section of the Metropolitan Branch Trail, federal law enforcement was abducting someone just down the way on the Trail and by a school.

Federal armed agents should not be enforcing DC's juvenile curfew. That's why I voted against the extension of a juvenile curfew.

I asked if we can be sure that there would be no federal involvement in enforcing the curfew. The answer was No.

We need to protect our young people.

DC needs a better answer for teenagers than saying they can never legally go outside after 8pm again
NEWS: The D.C. Council has approved a three-month extension of the expanded juvenile curfew that was in place during the summer. It applies to more kids and lets MPD designate temporary areas where the curfew is 8 p.m. (Standard curfew time is 11 p.m.)

Yes. But also kids don’t always have to do city programming. We really don’t want them to have any agency at all.
"We need a youth agenda. We keep saying the same things: young people don’t have places to go, they don’t have mental health resources," said @cmzparker5.bsky.social. "I would like to see a robust suite of program offerings. The curfew cannot be the long-term solution."

Among the things my teen kid does that makes me proud is his sense of freedom to travel around DC. He gets so much confidence and joy from those outings, similar to how I'd spend hours lost in pastures and the creeks where I grew up.

Curfews are a blunt tool. Dent the wood but don't hit the nail.

I think the goal of set aside seats is to help ensure a single party doesn't dominate DC politics. Technically, that is what's (not) happening. But when politicians freely register and unregister as a Democrat when it's politically expedient, it calls into question if the set-aside rule works.
