While evictions rise, the city is also cutting funding to 1) rent relief 2) street outreach 3) permanent supportive housing & other housing voucher programs & 4) shelters

If we’re talking purely money, it costs more to provide appropriate housing support for someone the longer they are unhoused.
Evictions in DC hit record levels last year, with 1,869 households removed from their homes. We don't have final numbers for this year yet but avg. monthly evictions are the highest they’ve been in six years. New investigation from @51st.news @streetsensedc.bsky.social 51st.news/record-evict...
Evictions rising in DC as housing costs increase
New data shows evictions have surged past pre-pandemic levels, fueled by shrinking aid, high rents, and weakened tenant protections.

Maybe it’s not all a distraction from the Epstein files, and it’s all authoritarian bullshit that they would be doing regardless?
I was a skeptic about the import of the Epstein files.

But 3 invasions of cities, one military buildup outside Venezuela, a government shutdown, and so many other things meant to distract have me convinced whatever’s in there is the biggest presidential scandal in U.S. history.

Putting people in mental health jail is still criminalization.

It’s still trying to disappear people who don’t fit into the capitalist demand that everyone be a “productive worker.”

It’s still violent. And that’s not even getting into the fact we know forced commitment does not work.
