This is a deeply unsurprising response, but I will repeat it yet again: we—DC residents—are unified in stating that we want federal agents and the National Guard out of our city, and they do not keep us safer. This has always been about control, not public safety.

I believe they’re referring to JLG considering a Mayoral bid to challenge Bowser (or McDuffie, if he runs in her stead), which was just confirmed this past week and which many of us overwhelmingly support.

People want to talk about supporting our Black, native Washingtonians. Then they strip the very laws that our people have benefited from for decades - and pay lip service in the process while stealing opportunity from straight under their feet. Shame.

$170 billion to build hidden prisons with no oversight. To put this in perspective, this is 62% larger than the entire federal prison system.

$170 billion to drag people out of their places of work, parks, homes.

ICE will be the vehicle, the gestapo empowered by the President, to enforce his will, first among vulnerable undocumented people, then among legal immigrants, then among political rivals, then among citizens who speak out against the Trump grift.

I’ve been attacked on Fox News, berated by the VP and others and like many of you, I’ve gotten death threats.

So please believe me when I say this. Things have changed.
