Another way to put it - the only way to solve this “problem” of asylum seekers is to make America so shitty that no one wants to come here.
Well, that is turning out not to be entirely true. Turns out that when you think the US immigration enforcement system is being run by a bunch of crazy guys who might do anything (like send you to Uganda or imprison you in CECOT), you can scare the pants off of people enough to halt asylum-seeking.
Also no amount of US border enforcement is going to stop people fleeing economic/state collapse in Central America and Venezuela from coming to the border. We theoretically learned this lesson during Trump 1 but nobody seems to remember it.

I think my answer to "are we a fascist country now?" is that we're in a weird state where the federal government has been fully taken over by fascists but it turns out you can have the entire federal government and not enough goons to impose your will on a populace that mostly hates you.

I feel insane watching The Discourse around Platner. We are the side with standards, and there is no easier standard to meet than “No Nazis.” And if you’ve got a Nazi tattoo, I’m just going to assume you are a Nazi and I’m not going to think much harder about it than that.

Ad maiorem Dei gloriam. The mission at Santa Clara had crosses for the Jesuit priests who were murdered in El Salvador and their commitment to liberation theology. It always moved me as a testament to people were earnestly living and working towards what Christ calls for.
