I’m glad about this. But the real problem is ICE, CBP, DHS etc. They hate our sanctuary city status and will do their best to violate it.
A federal court ruled Thursday that President Donald Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops in Washington D.C. was likely unlawful and inflicted serious harm on the District’s right to govern itself. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

MORE good news: A Canadian bill is just about to receive Royal Assent (yes this is a thing) and soon, if your parent is a Canadian citizen who spent 1,095 days of physical presence in Canada before you were born, you will be a citizen regardless of where you were born and where you live.

Across the UK, thousands of trans+ people face years-long waitlists and barriers to the care they need.

We’re asking you to donate to our Christmas fundraiser. Even £5 can make a difference. anne.health/christmas/ #CareForXmas

Mystery is doing better this morning! She was ill overnight, I phoned the vet twice— but this morning she’s more sprightly, and she ate and drank while I watched.
I made a vet appointment for this morning, and we’re still going in. But she made it through the night.

Today is the day to repost this meme about International Men's Day, one of the most unironically wholesome memes that has ever been made.

one thing about this is that in the wake of all of this kirk is basically forgotten. he was barely cold in the ground before his allies — before his *wife* — started scheming over what they could take for themselves. a real life parable.
New: Reuters has tallied job losses, suspensions and investigations stemming from the reaction to Charlie Kirk's Sept. 10 assassination. Its findings: More than 600 Americans have been punished, and the figure is likely to be an under-count.

One should always be suspicious when the state resists disclosure of documents.

And one should be more suspicious when the state suddenly purports to agree to the disclosure of documents.

A reminder that seven years ago almost to the day, the CIA determined that Mohammed Bin Salman ordered the killing of @washingtonpost.com journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

I hired and worked with Jamal for a year.

I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

Trump’s comments are vile. I am just as angry at the media outlets that bothsided Jamal’s murder, wrote puff pieces for MBS (Atlantic).

And, the Washington Post opinion page that dismantled the platform that Jamal wrote for, ended the fellowship in his name, and purged its human rights writers.

Amal’s audiobook for The River Has Roots, her novel about two sisters who make music together, has *actual music played and sung by her and her sister* and you should listen to it.
I'm so happy more people will be made aware of Gem Carmella's brilliant narration & Steve Wagner & the Macmillan Audio folks' excellent work producing it! & it's honestly amazing to get to share this kind of recognition with my sister, because we sang & played music together on it.

All joking aside, the heartbreaking thing about this story is seeing how a white “journalist” with poor prose & worst journalist ethics gets to repeatedly crash out & land plum jobs while so many poor, trans, Black, Native journalists never get in journalism’s door. Like…
How do you land Vanity Fair west coast editor at age 32 after having affairs with two presidential candidates you were covering as a journalist. That is some prime white lady shit.

Trump will not just be four years of bad management. The culture of these organizations will be fucked for a long time. The pressure to retaliate and clean house will be strong, and no-one wants to work in a war zone.

This moral radicalization happened at all levels in the Union army, very much including Ulysses S. Grant.

A lot of Northerners needed to SEE it to become true believers in the cause. But they did. It’s all there if you listen to the lyrics to The Battle Hymn of the Republic.
