Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

GenAI has polluted image search results, especially for animal pics. It’s now basically impossible to find accurate art references.

Enter this: a repository of open-access, AI-free images of wild & exotic taxa. Artists creating *without AI* have blanket permission for derivative/transformative use.

It’s widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort — specifically, if you don’t have to work at getting the knowledge, it won’t stick.

Even if an LLM could be trusted to give you correct information 100% of the time, it would be an inferior method of learning it.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

If you ever wonder why your artist friend is so pissed off whenever they see AI slop used instead of real, human-created art, it's exactly what you think:
How is AI *really* impacting jobs?

Henley Chiu, the CTO of Revealera, a jobs data analysis firm, analyzed 180 million jobs listings in 2024 and 2025, in an effort to find out. Chiu found an:

-8% drop in all jobs postings
-~30% drop in art, photography, writing jobs
-22% drop in journalism jobs
What’s really going on with AI and jobs?
Record-breaking layoff reports, Amazon's mass firings, and a slump in entry level employment. Is AI behind it all?

This Black Friday, if you are able, please shop local and small businesses *only.*

Consumers cannot continue rewarding these billionaires. We're helping to fund the architects of this administration and big donors. And they show no signs of ending their cruelty.

Inflation is so bad Americans are counting on Black Friday just to afford groceries and everyday essentials
"Black Friday is still a make-or-break moment for retailers, but shopper behavior is shifting," says Lightspeed Commerce founder and CEO Dax Dasilva.

i’m so tired of y’all fuckers legitimizing nazi platforms, GET OFF SUBSTACK
If you want to start a newsletter and don't want to use Substack because they currently platform/sponsor Nazis: consider using the free and open-sourced alternative that has been around for over a decade.

I'll personally walk you through it.
The Alternative to Medium/Substack - Sharpie Posts
Stop using closed-sourced solutions and move towards free and open-sources options that scale better, especially for indie creators.

Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.

It’s always so informative to note which outcomes are seen as Proof About How Things Are, and which are treated as “huh, strange. Well, moving on.”

The VA Gov race will surely be the latter, since it fails to fit The Narrative too many are trying to tell.
Virginia's election results should teach us that people reject anti-trans politics, and we must all immediately move as far left as possible on the issue

I believe that one the most critical things you get taught at all levels of education is to self-check. To critically ask yourself “what do I *not* know” so you can seek out that additional assistance. These AI chat applications undermine that.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.
