I think we’ve got better and more culturally-varied street food than I could have imagined, cool jackets galore, and drugs that make us think we’re really fast and strong before they kill us.
we're getting all the downsides of cyberpunk (social alienation, ruthless hyper capitalism, digital mass surveillance state) but none of the promised upsides (cheap street food, cool jackets, super drugs that make you really fast and strong before they kill you)

Also crucially we get paid when libraries buy our books! There is nothing to be sorry about ever in borrowing a fave author’s books from a library! It is one of the few “everybody wins” situations in life!
Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.

I looked up the real answer, but it’s boring, so I’m just going to stay irritated at the concept of putting crackers in a barrel. Why would anyone do that? Crackers are square. Barrels are round. The geometry is unpleasant to imagine. Also fuck ICE.

Our culture has such a reliance on art, mixed with so much disdain for artists' lives. Someone throws soup at a painting in a gallery or whatever and everyone acts like it's a literal murder, but that level of sympathy is for the object, almost never for the living conditions of artists.

The best part is how he handles the kid who doesn’t want to be there. He’s not like “OH HAVING A BAD DAY??? Give us a big smile!!!” Mamdani has empathy for the kid, recognizes he’s not into it and moves on!
Outside Gracie Mansion. This is his job. But dare I day it he seems genuinely affected and happy to be there. There’s potentially immense power in that.

I love it when in Star Trek there is a time jump and in the years missing people figured out a solution for a dilema. Like how in TOS we have conflict with the Klingons and in TNG there is a Klingon in the Enterprise. You simply think "Hey! They figured it out!"
To be clear: Lura Thok in #StarfleetAcademy is Klingon on her mother's side and Jem'Hadar on her father's side. If you can believe that Humans and Vulcans/Klingons/Betazoids can have offspring, you can also believe that in 800 years the Founders/somebody else created Jem'Hadar who could be fathers.
