Another example of the fans understanding a franchise better than the people literally paid to write for it.

This is how I feel about Gavin Newsom. Just a complete 100% disconnect between this site and real life.
After four years of absolute, searing, red-hot online hate for Jacob Frey, I still don't really understand why he's supposed to be so bad, other than "He's somewhat more moderate than I'd prefer and has the support of developers, because he's a big proponent of new construction, which I do support"

I don't really have any strong feels about this one way or another, which probably tells you everything you need to know about the state of the franchise.

Exactly this. The *reason* Bluesky took off and Mastodon didn't is that for anyone who wants to use social media to talk to their friends, to follow their favourite minor celebrity, or publicise their work, and who doesn't want to be brigaded, decentralisation is a bug, not a feature.
note that almost all user complaints about how mastodon sucks are symptoms of decentralisation. if a user knows about the decentralisation it's cos it's causing problems.
