Most media headlines right now are like "We are laying off 2/3 of our staff and also the president is our ombudsman now" but somehow David Brooks got two new jobs in one day

Staff at a Twin Cities yarn store put together a pattern for a red knit “Melt the ICE” hat inspired by the Norwegian resistance.

They thought they would attract 10 people to a weekly knit-along.

They’ve sold 70,000 copies, raising more than $250k for immigrant aid groups.

The Art Gallery of Ontario voted not to acquire a work by the famous photographer Nan Goldin, because of allegations that Nan Goldin is antisemitic. Nan Goldin is a Jewish artist who engages in Jewish themes in her work, and whose work is in the Jewish Museum in NYC. archive.is/jr3Wh#select...

Waterloo Region’s finest citizen journalist has all the details from the very very sketchy vote at council that resulted in $173 million being earmarked for a new police comms centre. Read down this thread for the shenanigans.
Staff leads role call and it seems everyone is present except for Cllr Shantz, which should mean we can't have any tie votes like at the earlier meeting...right?! Well, stay tuned.

New from me at @inthesetimes.com: I talked with new Jewish anti-Zionist projects, from a radical Hebrew school in NYC to a chavurah in Sacramento to a new siddur in DC. What binds them together is a commitment to diaspora Judaism:

Gross but not surprising! It's disappointing to see organizations partnering with the SA in Waterloo Region. :/
There's a couple reasons so many IWW songs are set to the tunes of hymns and one is that the Salvation Army Band would show up and try to stop workers organizing by playing hymns to drown out speeches, so the Wobblies came up with words so they could sing along. SA has been trash all along.
It's that giving time of year again, so this is a reminder that no matter how they try to dress it up, the Salvation Army is not a charity.

It is incredibly dangerous that universities are signing agreements that tie purported measures against antisemitism to rolling back diversity in admissions and excluding trans people from basic facilities.

This ends terribly for everyone.

Yeah. What are journalism ethics anyway?

Those men were TVO’s Steve Paikin and Global News’ Ben Mulroney:

no I’m not surprised, just imagining (among other things) an opposition party that took this population seriously and devoted itself over the many years it would take to make this country actually livable for them
"In 2025, 40% of women aged 15 to 44 say they would move abroad permanently if they had the opportunity. The current figure is four times higher than the 10% who shared this desire in 2014, when it was generally in line with other age and gender groups."
