And I may have been Wings of Fire–pilled, but "Dragonslayer" (in the Wings of Fire: Legends series) is actually really good (?!?!). It's from three humans' point of view, and it's enjoyable on its own, but intersects with the main series in ways your kids would appreciate.

I haven't read them myself, but my kids (10 and 13) *loved* "Impossible Creatures" and its sequel, by Katherine Rundell. We had lots of fun reading Ursula Vernon's "Hamster Princess" books together. We've also liked Anne Ursu (Breadcrumbs, The Lost Girl) and "Elf Dog and Owl Head" by M.T. Anderson.
