It's a hydrogen thing, Jon and it's not unique to trains. H2 solutions are easy to imagine if you don't look at the economics or laws pf physics. There won't be a consistent H2 train this side of 2040 and probably ever, in Europe.

Given the maintenance and personnel tempo problems the Navy already faces, wide deployment of nukes on Navy subs and ships would also need to come with a big increase in the Navy budget. Fwiw, all the Cold War-era surface Navy guys absolutely hated having nukes on board
