I don't think even I imagined the moment when the utterly catastrophic failures of capitalism would be so stark, ubiquitous, and fucking stupid.
“I’ve been hearing that standards will be eliminated or severely cut back. Bari has told people that she wants to get rid of standards and is shocked that they have so much power. She also asked openly, ‘What’s the point of standards?’” one CBS source said.

to be clear, this is about Standards and Practices, which is, generally, the department that does things like make sure you don't get your ass sued off or get smashed by the FCC (as well as boring nerd shit like being "ethical")
which is so much worse than just saying you're lowering your standards

Musk recently referred to people living in small town UK and Ireland as innocent "hobbits" that have to be defended from the invading forces who rape their children. It's a not-so-subtle framing of immigrants as sub-humans, akin to orcs, and of people like him as heroes rather than gutter racists.
The far right is obsessed with Lord of the Rings and Musk keeps posting about "hobbits" because modern scientific racism owes more to fantasy worlds and gaming systems than genetic science, and they see both as effective mediums for right-wing propaganda www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

Who tf wants a lawyer that used these methods of education in the run up to gaining admission? Even if she does eventually pass, is this the caliber of scholarship you want in your corner? 🥴
When will we be free of this entire family?

As we learn more and more about the costs associated with GenAI, I continue to wonder how institutions and their leadership decide that yes, incorporating anything OpenAI produces into the lives of educators and students is worth the harms.
