There was so much good music that wasn't grunge. This is silly.

Just saw Tool in Kobe. Will get to see Dream Theater in Osaka next March 🤘

Mine is: Go where you are wanted.

This kind of review is pointless if the reviewer is not skilled enough in Japanese to know whether the translations are correct.

jfc Japanese taxis solved this problem ages ago.
“Because riders and passersby can be unreliable, Waymo pays workers in Los Angeles $20 or more for rescuing a robotaxi by closing a door, summoning help through an app called Honk that is like an Uber for towing companies.”
When robot taxis get stuck, a secret army of humans comes to the rescue
Waymo robotaxis get stranded when a passenger leaves the door open. Tow truck operators can get paid $22 to close a door and set them free again.

not so hidden costs of (bad uses of) genAI
This is a great example of how genAI steals from us all on multiple levels. It's stolen a promotional spot for real books and authors, it's stolen a job from an actual journalist who could have compiled this, it's stolen an opportunity for parents to be recommended good NZ books for their kids
#4 sounds like a lovely book but I didn't write it. Have had whānau up and down the country send me clippings lol
Whoever put together this list that has been circulated to regional papers, didn't fact check.

Heads up to artists still using Twitter- Twitter is now adding an "Edit image" button under all images posted on the site that allows everyone to feed it into genAI and modify it as they wish with a prompt

An issue has come up where a few years ago I translated 「1日おきに」 as "every other day" and then last week I translated it again in the same manual as "every day." lol wat?

The solution will be to have the engineer confirm what they actual mean and to never use 「1日おきに」 again.

A key thing about corporate use of genAI is that it removes all the friction involved between the executives' weird fetish shit and inner thoughts, and public display

It does to corporations what alcohol does to a bigot.
using AI cuts corners on involving people who know better. negativity for christmas is an awful ad concept even if it was made by people - so a creative team would push back on the request. business people like AI doesn't argue, not understanding experts were protecting them from their own bad ideas

Before, an executive would have a shitty fucking idea and then have to convince many others to implement it. Even if they were sycophants, there was friction involved.

Now, he's got that liquid courage on prompt. Far less inhibition.

I'm a human translator. Automated translation is not solved. You are suffering from this 👇

I don't know how many times this needs to be said, but apparently a lot: If you are not in a position to verify the accuracy of some synthetic text, the synthetic text is not useful/has a high potential to be misleading.

This is one of those cases.
The rationale I was given for AI Summaries *alongside* ordinary abstracts:

* The AI-generated summaries are intended to be more accessible to non-experts.

Same for translation.
I spoke to a dozen professional concept artists working in games about whether generative AI image tools have made their jobs easier, even if it's just used in "very early ideation stages."

Zero said "yes." Most said it made their job harder.

I learnt a lot about concept artists. You should too!
