no more AI "art." i want art made by people because i want to know how people think, feel, live. how a day on this earth is for someone else. a night. and why the heart, though so heavy, still wants to dance. i want art that looks into this mystery. art that connects me to another person who wonders

I know it's obvious, but the only conceivable reason for this is to make it harder to get a passport as federal ID requirements surge

The current book ban movement is, at its core, a movement to defund the public good.

The necessary bigotries were a feature of that, not a bug.

Gonna need people to support middle grade and YA titles bc where do we think adult readers come from!! If kids don’t have good books to read from like 8 - 12 they are going to stop reading 😭😭😭😭

Welcome to issue 11! It shaped up to be thick with liberatory gestures – on disability, fatness, Blackness, youth, and more.

Creatives across/against genre and medium tackle pressing issues of disposibility and resistance.

“There was a line of children waiting to get treated by medics.”

ICE did this.
Trump did this.
Republicans did this.
“Centrist” Democrats who have caved on anti-immigrant bullshit for years did this.

Abolish ICE. That’s the minimum.
Someone just told me that they saw multiple people passed out during the first brutal wave of tear gas when there were still a ton of children and elderly folks. There was a line of children waiting to get treated by medics

Alex Pretti's gun is like Renee Good's car: irrelevant to the central fact that they were murdered by ICE. ICE wants us to debate whether Pretti should have been carrying because that avoids the central fact. Pro-carry, anti-carry--that has as much to do w/ his murder as his fashion choices. Zero.

Media outlets using terms like "immigration crackdown" or "immigration enforcement" to describe what is happening are simply manufacturing consent for fascism and state terror

This isn't about individual reporters/editors. It's about their bosses who lack the courage and ethics to meet this moment

A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

just gonna throw out a quick reminder that in America police kill a yearly average of 3 civilians per day, routinely in situations very similar to these ICE killings, and decades of explicit support for police impunity by US politicians is why ICE feels theyre able to get away with this right now
Our government is murdering the citizens of this country. They are doing it without any checks on their violence

Once again: Focusing on their lack of training is a mistake. With "better training," their violence would simply cost more, and they would still kill whoever they wanted, but make it look more professional — to make people more comfortable, the way many of you are at ease with local police violence.

When will elected officials realize that posting "Someone has to do something" is offensive? You're the motherfuckers we have in place to do something. Do it. Throwing up your hands & going "I'm just a tiny baaaby someone help!" is fucking pathetic. Do something or resign & we find someone who WILL.
