Not here for pointless arguments, and if you want that my method is block early and without regret.

I swear, a lot.

I make a lot of typos.

Every so often, let's just take a pause and pour one out for the one-hit wonders, career-killing obsessions, fabulous freaks and happy accidents when all the planets aligned at just the right moment that keep culture interesting.
Just finished watching Edge of Darkness for the first time since 1985 and now feel very melancholy. 40 years ago, I thought there would be more drama series like it in the future, the weirdness of cult TV spliced with the intelligence and depth of the best drama. Turned out there was only that one.

Meanwhile AoNZ keeps going backwards
I did not expect to see this in the WSJ:

"Reducing reliance on fossil fuels looks like Europe’s best shot at saving its domestic manufacturing and stopping other governments from pushing it around"

Agreed!
Europe Needs to Learn Its Lesson: Stop Relying on Imported Energy
Growing reliance on American gas looks foolish given how unpredictable the White House has become.

Really good to have things summed up so succinctly. Imagine if we actually had a "media" capable of this.

Did Nicola Willis just appoint Atlas Network connections to her surprise RBNZ Covid Inquiry?
Willis launches a surprise Covid inquiry with results to come out 6 weeks before the election. Most NZ publications noted her hiring of "independent" experts. I looked further into it.

Questions:

Does anyone believe the oil/gas ban prevented new gas, when there hasn’t been a gas find in 26yrs?

Why does half our gas go to methanex? Can that deal be undone to prioritise NZ households? Or no?

Have power co’s underinvested to focus on dividends since the sale?

I still can't really see what problem the LNG import terminal solves.

The Rankines on coal already cap the firming price ($~$200) at less than LNG (~$400). Even diesel is cheaper than that and we already have the import facilities.

Ahem AoNZ.

We used to be global leaders in this space, now we are talking about importing LNG and ignoring the endless resources under our feet.

Exactly, the only problem is that now the clowns will say it cant be built because it will get in the way of the LNG tankers or some other bs.
By defeating seabed mining in Taranaki, the green movement has created the option of large scale, low carbon, reliable, cheap offshore wind, which will actually make a real difference to NZ’s energy system. Unlike an LNG import facility which is expensive, polluting and small.

Ok, besides all the usual rascist xenophobic bullshit, can someone explain to me (a foreign type who doesn't know much about US football) what this "new kickoff rule" is that pisses him off so much?
He has mentioned it multiple times.
