The insidious part is people think, "Well, it doesn't work for my job but it has to be good for *something.* They spent so much money! Someone else is probably getting use out of it."

Except that's what everyone thinks ...
I work mostly in non-profit database management, something AI should aid gracefully, and I genuinely gave LLM AI’s a shot in the first few months of all the hype, and it… can’t do anything. It’s also wrong about the historical topic I studied the most. But AI shills still love to tell me I’m naive…

I think I may now need to turn off all further news for today:
Trump’s “Board of Peace,” originally conceived to oversee the rebuilding of Gaza….invites Putin to join. 🤯
Putin’s spokesman encouraging Trump to seize Greenland: “There are international experts who think that in solving the question of adding Greenland, Trump will go down in history — not just the history of the United States, but world history”. 🇷🇺 can’t believe its luck

Well, this is outrageous. Florida man keeps bees on a lot he owns. Neighboring lot was sold, new owner came in in JULY and cleared beekeeper’s *20* hives and cut down his trees. Same day, Beekeeper learns of this, new neighbor claims it was a mistake, will fix! He got 14 of his hives back on 11/25.
Elderly resident stunned after neighbor's brazen act: 'This wasn't any sort of accident'
Richard Marquette, an 84-year-old beekeeper, was shocked when his neighbor stole 20 of his hives.

i was talking with someone in the twin cities about how it’s not even accurate to call them protesters. they’re literally just people protecting their city from TERRORISTS.
Every time the Trump regime uses the words "funded protesters" and "outside agitators" news outlets need to cut to this photo from last week.

ICE has invaded these communities. Outside agitators don't show up in their fucking bathrobes.

I freely admit to missing SoCal--SD, Orange, and LA, because that's where I lived in my 30+ years there--though I don't dwell on it.

(I mean, I also like where I live now, but there are definitely places where I'd not likely feel that way.)
it’s weird that it’s controversial to admit that you like Los Angeles and Orange County because i do in fact really like Los Angeles and Orange County

probably my most first world sensory issue food problem is that I wish literally any of the grocery stores I have access to would sell chopped but *also* destemmed kale

I always return to: Why in god’s name would you, a wonderfully intelligent, curious, beautiful human being with an infinite capacity for learning and a fathomless depth of interiority give up a single iota of your creativity to a chatbot that can neither think, nor feel, nor create? Have some pride
No, these are very serious comments.

ChatGPT has absolutely no goddamn place in graduate education. It steals from other authors, routinely gets major facts wrong, hallucinates sources, and generally makes the prose flat and boring as hell.

And if you shill for it in my mentions, I'll block you.

ravens can speak like humans; they sound like terrifying ghostly creatures and sometimes they hide in trees and whisper in haunted croaks

“The end is coming,” you might hear in the dark. You don’t know where their voices are coming from or who is talking to you

people in Baltimore know this
I love that every city has added a new mischief to the anti-ICE work:
LA started the noise outside hotels
Portland started the inflatables
Chicago started the whistles
Minneapolis started not warning them about the weather lol
If ICE comes to your city it’s your duty to out-scamp the last 🫡

In LA part of the rapid response network is contacting people's families and helping them get their loved ones' cars back. Because yes they just take people and leave all of their belongings behind.
this crystallizes why, despite truly heroic solidarity and activism, i can’t quite get in the “we’re going to win” mindset right now. the harm is so active and there’s so much violence we don’t even know about. people are being turned into ghosts.

Choosing to leave these people in these positions would compound harm. I agree with my colleagues that we need to consider ways to depoliticize higher ed boards (and we have some ideas of how to do that) but the current Governor and AG of VA are not the ones to politicize it.

Folks saying this is just as bad, I need you to reread about reconstruction. Not holding people accountable is how we get into this position. Removing people who colluded with the administration in an authoritarian takeover of higher ed from their position is the most reasonable thing to do.

this site seems to genuinely have an issue with viewing explanation as a form of endorsement
Me outlining the conclusions the tribunal reached is not me endorsing them. Especially when I emphasised repeatedly that this is a first instance decision and non-binding. I'm really not sure what more I can do to make my position on this clear - it has quite literally been my entire life since FWS.
