My grandfather started the family farm after coming back from fighting the Nazis in France in WWII.

My dad innovated, converting to organic starting in the 1980s. The farm is still going strong, now in the third-generation. Proud of this write-up in the Sutter Crop Report:

I will tell you what "real America" is. It's going to a work-related dinner a month or two after your naturalization and the hostess - a "legacy American," DAR, descendant of Revolutionary War officers and presidential blood in her family - surprising you with a red/white/blue "Congratulations" cake
It’s how you end up with language like “paperwork American” or the idea that Thanksgiving turkey is some sort of natural ethno-national tradition that certain other groups are incapable of ever appreciating

Awful: Trump's boat bombings are now being justified by a new legal memo that relies on WH's own determinations as evidence. Memo also says people can't be prosecuted for the killings. But that reveals WH knows there's legal vulnerability here, Ds tell me.

Trump Boat Bombings Darken as Secret Memo Reveals Holes in Legal Case
A new White House memo argues that those carrying out the boat attacks can’t be prosecuted. Why? Because the White House says so!

Trump's ordering DOJ to investigate 'enemies,' even though the DOJ and FBI both declared all Epstein investigations closed in July, is not just more petty political vendetta. Trump is giving the DOJ a (lame) excuse for not turning over the Epstein files to Congress.

My takeaway after reading this is disappointment.

The US DOJ engaged in an explicit, pretextual shakedown of one of our top universities, aided by the complicity of the UVA board of directors and other officials.
Former UVA president Jim Ryan, who resigned over the summer due to pressure from the Trump Administration, just shared this 12-page letter with the Faculty Senate, detailing his experience with the Board of Visitors and DOJ.

It's a surreal--and troubling--read.

Trump's selection of cities to occupy is based on asserting power against perceived political opponents, not on whatever pretextual grounds he may offer such as crime or border enforcement.
"I’m told that Mamdani’s team and other New York officials have already begun quiet but urgent preparations for hostile deployments from ICE, the National Guard, or both."

15.2% of Calaveras County population receives SNAP according to NCOA.

USA Facts states statewide the number is 13.6%.

Thankfully, Dem run California issued November’s SNAP payments despite Trump working hard to starve Americans until he can remove their healthcare!

Given what we’ve seen on America’s streets, it’s worth repeating what the court says here:

Needlessly pointing a firearm at someone can violate the Fourth Amendment, even if the officer never pulls the trigger.
Fourth Circuit publishes an opinion to make a point that otherwise would go unseen.

This number is completely made up. There are not 30 million undocumented immigrants. The most recent estimates are around 14 million, of which roughly 8 million people have been here for over a decade.

Vance is not a fool. He knows this. DHS produces official estimates. They don’t say 30 million.
JD Vance: "A lot of young people are saying housing is way too expensive. Why is that? Because we flooded the country with 30 million illegal immigrants who were taking houses that ought by right go to American citizens."

A left wing politics that is oriented around your rights and identity as an individual consumer instead of your responsibilities as a member of a social or political community is basically a left aesthetic pasted onto an internalized neoliberal ontology.

One’s identity as a consumer organizes one’s politics in part because the thicker social structures that once performed that role — unions, fraternal orgs, churches, etc. — have mostly faded away.

I don't think it gets mentioned enough that Bovino is a member of the civil service. He is not a political appointee. Yet he still engages in constant open partisanship while in uniform and with a DHS flag behind him.
Bovino: "Whether they were criminals or individuals that were taking jobs from Americans -- you name it, that's what they were doing. And I'll tell you what's gonna happen. We're gonna go even harder on the streets. If he releases those 650, we're gonna apprehend 1,650 on the streets of Chicago."
