I think it is important for freedom of assembly to apply to the places where people assemble.
I miss the days when people didn't consider having a social media account a first amendment right. Funny how attitudes changed when people discovered they could monetize these things innit

it's totally sensible imo to move the inauguration inside when its 20 degrees and the president elect is almost 80 years old. the issue isn't that he's doing this it's that the media let him get away with pretending he wasn't 80 years old during the campaign and it turns out he is 80 and frail

your post reminded me that I wrote a piece about Harding way back in the day, quoting you and @hcrichardson.bsky.social. from another era: s-usih.org/2015/08/trut...

In this post, I want to use this week's news about President Warren G. Harding to consider the question of what is (or is not) historically significant. First, the news: it seems that Harding did, in ...

Not enough people know about Harding - it’s a fascinating and all too familiar history
As I note in this piece, we've actually seen this weird mishmash of ridiculously wealthy businessmen and dipshits whose main qualification is loyalty to the president about a hundred years ago.

It was the Cabinet of Warren G. Harding and, hoo boy, did that not turn out well.

I didn't really predict that a a bunch of companies working to make life cheaper and more convenient would start us on a path to just NEVER INTERACTING WITH HUMANS and that seems very bad and like something to push back very hard against.

A major goal of social media should be for people to curate exactly what kind of experience they want. Nobody derides people for being able to choose the books they want to read or films they want to watch yet social media gets treated like it's some kind of virtue to have less control.

1. In April 2024, California raised the minimum wage for fast food chains to $20/hour

The industry claimed it would be devastating & require significant job cuts and prices increases

Here is what really happened: workers got a raise, prices went modestly, and the industry continued to add jobs
What really happened after California raised its minimum wage to $20 for fast food workers
What would happen to the fast food industry if it had to pay its workers something closer to a living wage?

Ben Stein was a traditional Republican who understood how economies work.

Trump’s Republican Party has no friggin clue.

We need to collectively stop the reflexive statements that Republicans are better for the economy. That is lazy and a lie.

#Trumponomics are terrible for America.
