They certainly are disputing the reality of schizophrenia and other mental illnesses when they insist these are normal reactions to life events.
Ignoring genetics and intergenerational mental illness does not help patients who are struggling.
Privilege does not provide immunity.

Autistic unmasking isn’t a single act.

It’s a series of negotiations with your own safety.

The question isn’t “who am I?”

It’s “where can I exist without disappearing?”

Thread some personal ideas about masking as autistic person and response to felt pressure to be what I thought was a "real autistic advocate " on social media.
Thinking about my strategy of last few months having got ideas about not masking from loud articulate autistic voices who have like minded people within a community of support. I thought I should just unmask and be myself.

When I tell people I am exhausted it's not even the half of it.

I've been out of work for 3 months now and while it's a blessing to not have to blend in anymore, I am still recovering.

The years of trying to "behave" and stay "in line" when it was hurting took an unpayable toll.
Autistic exhaustion is rarely solely about energy.

It’s about compression.

Lack of freedom.

The daily work of holding back physical movement, emotions, thought, and truth - just to be digestible to those around us.

Just to survive.

Autism question! Does anyone have any good links/resources for, like, what to *do* when you're diagnosed autistic? How to examine your thinking/beliefs, work out what masking is, learn self compassion etc etc? Broad question, but I really should do something with this knew self knowledge.
