Things I did yesterday after deactivating Xitter yesterday instead of gloom scrolling:
Arranged flowers, went for a walk, listened to music, cooked a stew, read about Patti Smith, wrote in my journal.

Very thoughtful post by @samwoolfe.bsky.social about the harm that can arise when men make masculinity and sexual performance too much a part of their identity.
For #MensMentalHealthMonth, I wrote this article on men's relationship to sex and sexual dysfunction, and how it is often tied to unhealthy expectations around masculinity.
Sex, Masculinity, And Men’s Silent Struggle • States Of Mind
Many men quietly carry anxiety and shame around sex and ideas of masculinity. It's time to update the conversation.

Can't believe there are conversations about ending the BBC. This is like listening to a family calmly discussing whether to shoot it's dog, or burn down the house.

Gibb needs to be investigated by as many journalists as possible. I once knew him, unfortunately. As right-wing as you can be, shamelessly devious & deeply unpleasant. “Links with the Conservatives” doesn’t begin to explain how deeply he is intertwined with them

Sources say Robbie Gibb amplified criticisms of Trump, Gaza and trans rights coverage, and had ‘a lot of oxygen in the room’

I have worked with clinical psychologists who practiced Internal Family Systems therapy, and it always made me uneasy with its cartoonish imagery & pre-set assumptions.

Imagine calling yourself a mental health professional while insisting mental illness doesn’t exist.
That’s a great way to avoid taking any responsibility for the quality of payitnt care.
Glad to see @jonathanstea.bsky.social calling out this chicanery.

Schizophrenia exists.
Mental illness exists.
Psychiatric medications can be life-saving.
Psychotherapy can be life-saving.
Don't let misinformed people like @profjohnread.bsky.social tell you otherwise.
Enough with the anti-psychiatry propaganda and stigma. ✌️

Recently learned that my great-great grandfather, Patrick Calhoun, took part in the last duel in Georgia, in 1889, after duelling had been outlawed.
He lived to tell the tale.
Now I see where my stubborn streak comes from. 🔫

Terrific thread on the ‘Christmas is being cancelled by people we don’t like’ shock horror.
It blows my mind that there are real people who see a post like this and actually believe the whole “Christmas is being cancelled by Muslims” BS 🙄

If our air traffic controllers and TSA, as well as, other essential workers have to go to work without pay, then why in the hell are all these lazy, do-nothing Republicans getting paychecks?!

How menopause should be truly biopsychosocial - and the importance of listening to women
Menopause, moods – and me
There are times when traditional feminist thought does women no favours. In her recent ‘against the stream’ article ‘The Menopause transition, a call for a holistic approach’ Rachel Gibbons quotes from Germaine Greer – a heroine of mine in the 1970s: ‘ a view of menopause as a catastrophe […]. If women on the youthful side of climacteric could glimpse what this state of peaceful potency might be, the difficulty of this transition would be lessened.’
