I call Derek Guy "Suit Guy", but he finally has a thread that better suits my lifestyle and is full of very important info - time to go read the labels and look at the stitching of my favourite hoodies...
Let me show you the difference between a $40 hoodie and a ~$100 hoodie. 🧵

"You can't un-invent AI!" We can't un-invent asbestos either. That doesn't mean we have to use it.

I tell younger folks all the time: Do not worry about losing the respect or presence of people who can't or won't accept you doing things that bring you joy. The only relationship you are guaranteed will last until you die is the one you have with yourself. Don't let yourself down.
One thing people kind of tell you, but not really, about middle age:

One day you'll be like "oh [thing] looks fun but people will think I'm a loser" about a thing

And then you'll say. Wait a second.

Fuck 'em

Wait, what?! This information might have been useful for the past 15 years or so - ffs.
TIL that blood platelets have serotonin receptors, which is why anemia can mimic depression symptoms and that is absolutely fucking fascinating.

I don't think rich people are insane, personally. I think that's an insult to mentally ill people, who are generally kept from being wealthy by virtue of their condition, which is not a choice. I think wealth, which is, just makes you evil, bc your attempts to justify it make you a monster

I was so intimidated to read Austin, until I read Persuasion and realized that it was a comedy.
It really is funny how much of both Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion are characters exiting a scene going “well, I’m never going to see THEM again I guess” and then in the next ten pages they randomly run into each other 100 miles away

Longest on my TBR pile by association. I bought the sequels and then spent a decade hunting down the first few books in the series. Adolf - Tale of the Twnentieth Century by Osamu Tezuka is a chilling fictionalized tale of the rise of authoritarianism and hatred in Germany and Japan in the 1930s.

If the federal Liberals use generative AI in anything having to do with serious governing, this automatically becomes the stupidest government of my lifetime
If the Carney government deploys generative AI -- a product that by design cannot be trusted to provide reliable information -- to answer Canadians' tax question, it should be required to forgive the taxes of anyone who follows any incorrect answers.
