Hi, Bluesky! If you already have a dressing recipe that’s your “if I don’t have my grandma’s dressing I’ll die” thanksgiving requirement, you should make that one and have a great Thursday.

If you don’t have one, now you have mine, with duck fat and focaccia. With all my heart, I hope you enjoy it.
If you go into the kitchen right now and make some rice it’ll be good and dried out by Friday which means you can have turkey fried rice, is all I’m saying.

When we, heavy drinkers, started hosting post-COVID I made two major changes to my behavior: always have some sort of interesting NA thing to drink available AND offer that interesting thing as part of the welcome spiel. Beer, wine, cocktail? I just made this gorgeous mint iced tea?
Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.

“We wanted it very badly in the moment. More than anything. So that nothing would ever end. Not just borrowing happiness from tomorrow to spend today but borrowing happiness from the rest of our lives.”

An absolutely devastating, beautiful, you-get-it-if-you-get-it exploration of grief.
It is such a disorienting feeling when someone you care about but hadn't talked to that much in a couple of years dies suddenly because there is now a freshly dug hole inside of you and yet the day to day routine of your life has not been altered one bit. www.welcometohellworld.com/watertown-ma...

We have a family of two and we run the goddamn dishwasher nearly every day of our lives. Maybe it isn’t full! But I promise you it is so much more efficient than me being like “oh it’s only a couple of glasses” and running the water for four straight minutes.
Friendly reminder that dishwashers made after 1995 or so are so water and energy efficient that even if you ran them twice fully loaded it would still use less water than handwashing the same load.

So many "green" things feel like sacrifices. Dishwashers are not one of them.

Yes, I just reposted my own pinned dressing recipe, but I tell you - it’s the best thing I ever make. You have eight days until Thanksgiving. You can make your focaccia days in advance. We’re doing a teeny tiny two person party this year and I’m making an entire 9x13 of it anyway.

This is great. I've been hoping a "Grab Your Wallet" type movement would take hold. Make the enablers feel it, indeed! Shop small instead.

Shameless promotion: I make delicious confections at my one-man chocolate company (noshthis.com) and am offering free shipping through 2025 on orders over $75.

My second to last food bank delivery today was a 78-year-old widow who lives alone and just had surgery to remove a brain tumor. She didn’t see the confirmation email and was surprised when I showed up because she thought she wasn’t going to have food this week.

…Is the perfect strategy to have.
I’d love more coders to take that attitude because a lot lives in their layer but at least designers can keep the focus.
Accessibility is related to usability. Both are aspects of design. As a designer it’s our literal duty to make it work
I didn't start a specialist, and I don't have "accessibility" in my job title today.

I've just spent the better part of a decade asking "how do I make this more accessible" in everything I do, which just so happens to be in product design.

That curiosity makes my job far better, more meaningful
