Perfume collector and geek. Time for some perfume education cause there is so much misunderstanding. 1. Perfume is perfectly acceptable to wear. I wear it daily, yes there are folks in my life who are fragrance sensitive, none of them are bothered by my wear because I do it *right* and you can too.

Literally every other text I get from my mother is some unhinged Threads post about how mRNA vaccines are mutating our genes, and poisoning our water and they are ABSURD and yet she swallows them hook line and sinker and can we PLEASE put age restrictions on social media for the over 80s?

We have finally figured out why Miggy just doesn't eat sometimes... he doesn't like fish. Seriously. Any wet food with fish is a NO from this weirdo.

Do you have ANY idea how hard it is to find quality wet cat food WITHOUT FISH at prices that aren't "I am a billionaire?"

Well I held off for YEARS but finally upgraded my phone so I could KEEP the old one and I now have a dedicated work phone and NO work accounts/apps on my personal phone and let me tell you that feels good. (Work phone will live in my office on my desk. Because BOUNDARIES.)

People: Why don't you go home and visit family at Christmas???

Hey y'all, my friend @tonigatlin.com is training to become a spiritual director & needs directee volunteers! I know Toni very well & trust her deeply. If you could use spiritual support right now, consider working with her. Everyone wins: you get support & you support her too! 💛
Sooo I'm in training to become a spiritual director, and apparently it's best to learn with real directees. 🤭 I could use more volunteers so I'm making a public invitation for the first time. 🙏 Could you use some (free!) (not-yet-professional!) (Jesus-centered!) companionship? 1/

This winter has been so mild I didn't even clock that if I want to the barn super early today (really first night below freezing) that the arena would be frozen and I'd be driving home to try again once it had thawed later. 🤦‍♀️🤞 Guess it really is winter now.

Non W2 therapists - is personal therapy tax deductible? I see conflicting info when I read about it.

Seeing yet more AI news in the feed and I am now firmly in my "OK Herbert had his issues but I now 100% understand the not making a machine to imitate a human mind absolute law and I am ready for that please."

“Then they shouldn’t have voted for this!”

Bitch, Asheville is a blue college town and the county has gone blue for decades. I am so sick of this “if I pretend disasters only happen to red areas, it means I’m safe because I’m properly on the left!” No. You’re not safe. That’s why we save everybody.

Doing the old Christmas season tidy (what is that just a priest thing?) and found a box of books in the garage that I don't think has ever been unpacked. We have been here 11 years now. 🤦‍♀️ Grandma used to joke about funny ways to clear the WHOLE house out and start over, I get you now Grandma.

When I was growing up in the South, we assumed that people who used phrases like "Heritage American" in public were definitely in the Klan.

I kinda love being a priest who isn't serving a parish but at Christmas and Easter I miss being *part* of it all. Grateful for a lovely colleague who invited me to serve at their late service last night it was JUST what I needed.

Most Grandparent coded gift? A digital photo frame from eldest son & DIL so they can constantly send us Grandbaby pictures and frankly I've never been so happy to get a gift made for the elderly. ;) (Box promised "easy setup for any age!")

Merry Christmas y'all. I got a little portable photo printer so I'll actually print photos for my journal, what a concept!

I did not hate blue books. Those were my favorite kind of test. Write what I know, no trick questions, no endless memorization bullshit just "show that I learned the thing." I am so glad the blue book is back because it should have never gone away damnit. (And yes make accommodations too, obvs)
Does anyone else bristle at this framing? WSJ says blue books are “torturing” students with hand cramps, and “nobody likes them.”

Listen, students have been outsourcing everything to AI and cheating their way through college. Blue books should be celebrated as a return to authentic human learning.
They Were Every Student’s Worst Nightmare. Now Blue Books Are Back.
Cheating with ChatGPT has become a huge problem for colleges. The solution is painfully old-school.

As we've said before, adoption is not an alternative to abortion:

Abortion is a decision about *pregnancy*.

Adoption is a[n often coerced] decision about *parenting*.
Relinquishment is *profoundly* unpopular—so much so that in the Turnaway Study, tracking the outcomes for people who sought and were denied abortion care, 91 percent chose to keep their children.

91% of people who *sought abortions.*

Winter solstice is tomorrow (for certain parts of the globe.) Letting the shortest “day” of the year remind me that things pass and there is comfort in impermanence, at times.

Ok. I got the tree up. Now to decorate it, I gotta say I have VERY little energy for it this year. (I'll love it once it's done but I definitely miss my FoO where decorating was a big communal affair.

Both of our DIL are beautiful wrappers, the gifts they send are works of art. My goal is for none of the present to be visible and to not use TOO much tape. 🤣

I think a lot about how hospitality was considered a vital public virtue for millennia and I fully believe that the corrosion and displacement of hospitality as a pillar of healthy social order is a not-zero part of why shit sucks now
