Was going for a night run at parents house wearing some of my new running stuff, was feeling pretty tech-ninja sex-future assassin, bullied by mother into wearing reflective bib for safety, instantly transformed into unfuck-a-bot.
Three kinds of gym clothes: painting a house, tech-ninja assassin from sex-future, basketball.

Really interesting insight into this mindset: Schumer’s job isn’t to take advantage of things people are mad about to win elections, his job is make people mad about other stuff to win elections.

I personally don’t get it
Well, that's sort of my point?

No one needs Chuck Schumer to pop up and say, hey, have you noticed your grocery bill is out of control? We all already know that. We're already mad about that.

The other stuff needs highlighting and easily ties back into the prices issue. I'd focus there.

It’s sort of funny that he’s hated so much on here because this website largely agrees that social media is politics
Newsom thinks social media is politics.
There is a reason I have never considered him an actual candidate for 2028. What looks like boldness is simply desperately trying anything he can to get national traction. Sometimes it works, but his instincts are generally so bad it mostly just blows up in his face.

There is no leader of the party. Doesn’t work like that
He’s right though. Schumer is a leader of the party and is a net -20 unfavorable compared to net -10 for Trump. The Dem leadership is loathed by left, center, and right. Maybe that’s not fair but why are Dems keeping Schumer in his positions when voters despise him?

Okay so the insurgent leftist candidate looking to unseat the old lady in the gerontocracy who's just too damn OLD and TIRED to have the job anymore is apologizing for missing events because of heretofore undisclosed narcolepsy causing her to sleep through them, got it

I fear my tipping point into madness is "Thus is un-American" posts in response to ICE terrorizing immigrants. I beg you to open Wikipedia (I would say a book but let's start small) and read up on The Trail of Tears, Fugitive Slave Catchers, Japanese internment, Indian Boarding schools & Jim Crow

I loved F1: the movie and have never watched a single minute of F1 before or after but let’s say that the movie had convinced me to watch F1 why would that be bad? Oh no I watched something I enjoyed and then found something else to enjoy what a dirty trick they played on me

Transphobia is a cancer of the heart and mind.

It is a useless fear, based on ignorance and cruelty.

Trans people are not responsible for a single one of the problems we face.

Do the world a favor and grow the fuck up.

Modern celebrity is so strange. Imagine Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh having to spend press tours hooked up to a lie detector test for Vanity Fair, reading out erotic fan letters to each other, eating hot wings, or just crying in every interview.

It should not surprise us that the man who, literally on 9/11, called into a live TV broadcast and went out of his way to brag that "his building" (40 Wall St) was now the tallest downtown also has no regard for the citizens of allied countries who died in support of US wars in the years afterwards
I don’t know if this has had any play in the US news, but Trump’s comments about Nato troops not fighting alongside the US have caused a pretty big backlash across Europe. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cd...
Starmer calls Trump's remarks about Nato troops in Afghanistan 'insulting and frankly appalling'
Veterans and bereaved families call the comments

This is a plot point in Mr. Popper's Penguins that there are no penguins at the north pole because they'd get eaten by polar bears. It ends with his trained penguins being sent there to start a colony and probably get eaten.

Yes I read the book in middle school.
Thanks to the White House about half the internet learnt that there are actually no penguins in Greenland. Yay #scicomm!

BUT there *is* one 🐧living in the northern hemisphere: the Galapagos penguin, the only species found (just) north of the equator. No, the "penguin" on the WH tweet is not it.

Democrats don’t like defund the police because it’s a really dumb idea. Voters also share this view but even if voters didn’t it would still be a very dumb idea
The reason Democrats don’t like defund the police is because of polling.

Like it or not, large majorities of the regular population by and large like the police. Because, yes, they associate them with safety.

This is also true in Black populations btw.

They’re the ones whose minds need to change.

The best candidates should get the best jobs in politics - that is what having an open, democratic, meritocratic political culture looks like.

That’s why I believe that if Andy Burnham wants to stand in Gorton and Denton, he should be allowed to.

It isn't widely understood that Burnham *cannot*, legally, stay on as mayor if he's elected to Parlt.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester is also the Police & Crime Commissioner. PCCs are barred by law from sitting as MPs.

This was not the case for Boris Johnson in London or Dan Jarvis in S. Yorkshire
All the coverage of Andy Burnham is about what it would mean for Labour at Westminster.

Can one outlet at least mention that Burnham is less than halfway into his term as mayor & would be legally obliged to resign that role if he became an MP?

There's a serious case for a party saying "no" to that

Ban these things yesterday

Also:

"After initially reporting the video to TikTok,Dilara was told by the tech firm that no violations had been found after a review. However, after being contacted by the BBC,TikTok later removed the video"

We need to start punishing social firms who fail to moderate
This was entirely predictable: and we are going to see far worse. If we think revenge/unsolicited porn is bad now...

Ban the fucking things.
